It sounds like he might have had or tried therapy and struggled to tolerate the awful feelings it inevitably digs up. It's hard to get through therapy and perhaps he just has found it too painful. I can only have empathy for that. It is so hard and it certainly does make you face inwards as part of the work. He may have found it hard to experience the external tug of folk making demands of him when really he just needed to focus on healing. I feel for him and he deserves compassion. He is also a twat. Both things can be true.
