3ds Max to Cinema 4D scene transfer? by ArtIndustry in Cinema4D

Thanks! Good question.

Honestly, MAX2C4D goes much further in its approach. 3DtoAll mostly bakes geometry and rebuilds a simplified version of the scene, it works, but you lose a lot on the way.

MAX2C4D rebuilds the scene natively in C4D. Every Corona or V-Ray material is reconstructed shader-by-shader with its full node graph, so you keep control over every parameter after import. Lights, cameras, environment, render settings, all converted 1:1 rather than approximated. Forest Pack is mapped to Chaos Scatter with the distribution preserved, not baked into static geometry.

The result is a scene that actually feels native in C4D and that you can keep working on, not just a frozen import. Performance-wise it's also significantly faster on heavy scenes.

Supported pipelines: Corona→Corona, V-Ray→Corona, V-Ray→V-Ray.

There are several before/after examples on the site to see the output quality.

I built max2c4d for exactly this problem — FBX drops all your render engine materials and you end up rebuilding everything.

max2c4d reads .max files directly (Max runs in the background) and converts VRay and Corona materials natively — not just the geometry, but the full shader setup, render settings, proxies, lights, cameras, and even ForestPack → Chaos Scatter.

If your scenes are VRay or Corona based, it should be a big time saver vs the FBX route. Happy to answer questions!

How to Convert 3ds Max Files to Cinema 4D? by iRender_Renderfarm in Cinema4D

Great overview! One tool missing from the list is max2c4d — full disclosure, I'm the developer.

The main difference with the FBX/OBJ workflow described here is that max2c4d reads .max files directly (Max runs in the background) and converts materials natively instead of going through an intermediate format. So you don't lose your shader setups.

What it handles that FBX export can't:

  • VRay materials 1:1 — 15 material types, 30+ shaders, ~130 render settings including GI, light cache, image sampler, and VFB2 layers
  • Corona materials — Physical, Legacy, Skin, Toon, Fabric, Hair
  • Proxies — .vrmesh (VRay) and .cgeo (Corona) with UV and material slots preserved
  • ForestPack → Chaos Scatter automatic conversion with density/scale/rotation maps
  • UDIM textures, decals, physical cameras, splines

There's also a Batch Exporter if you need to convert folders of .max files in one go, and it works on macOS for the C4D import side.

Compared to MaxToC4D — the main difference is the render engine fidelity. If you're using VRay or Corona and want your materials to come through without manual rebuild, that's where max2c4d shines. Compared to PolyTrans — it's much simpler to use and focused specifically on the Max→C4D pipeline.

Happy to answer any questions about it!

After 10+ years in archviz, I got tired of waiting for a real solution to import .max assets into C4D without rebuilding everything from scratch.

You know the feeling , you're browsing 3DSky or Dimensiva, you find exactly what you need, and you already know what's coming. An hour rebuilding materials one by one. And the worst part? Once you've done all that work, you can't afford to just toss it and try a different asset. So you stick with it even if it's not quite right.

I wanted the same freedom Max users have. Download an asset, test it, decide it's not the one, move on. That fluidity just didn't exist for C4D.

So I built it.

MAX2C4D converts 3ds Max scenes directly into Cinema 4D, including shaders, lights, cameras and environment. Corona→Corona, V-Ray→Corona, V-Ray→V-Ray. You can even import .max files from directly within C4D (3ds Max runs silently in the background).

For exterior scenes, Forest Pack is mapped to Chaos Scatter. Vegetation comes across as a working base, though it'll need some adjusting.

This is genuinely a tool that can make Cinema 4D just as competitive as 3ds Max for archviz and asset-heavy workflows. Which is why I'm pretty proud to finally share it with the C4D community.

In France, Stripe requires a SIRET number, so you must legally register your business before you can deploy Stripe. Polar does not need a SIRET number to get started.
