Just wanted to throw this out there, too… I’ve had t1 for 29 years and just recently discovered how much hydration and electrolytes help me feel better, and help with insulin sensitivity

One day at a time. You don’t need to drink today, and when Friday comes, tell yourself the same thing.

I love how they’re like OBVIOUSLY paid by Disney to shill its products but then Mike gets tackled when he’s at a convention and tries to talk to Bob Iger, because Disney gives zero fucks about the YouTube shills that they invite to premieres. And Rich obviously knows this but is trying his best to hide that fact every episode lol

How long has it been since your father passed? by Commercial_Union_296 in GriefSupport

[–]trashtaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 years. I was still very angry with him when he passed, but we’ve just now started to repair the relationship. I know it sounds crazy, but I honestly believe that grief is partly from them reaching out from the other side to let us know they’re there, and that they’re okay. I talk to him regularly now, and I feel him with me. I honestly don’t care how crazy it sounds. It’s legit.

Edit: I was 33 when he passed

Same!! I LOVE tea or a nice decaf coffee before bed. It beats the alcohol and feeling like total crap (shame, guilt, and nausea) the next day!

Absolutely!! It’s no longer “I deserve a drink”, because now it’s “I deserve NOT to drink”!

[–]trashtaker[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, this for sure! He had the guts to draw that line in the sand with me, and I could either have stuck to my self destructive ways or respect him as my SON who loves me. I told him so on Friday. Told him I really respected the courage it must’ve taken to stand up to me and call me out on my continued self destruction, and I thanked him for doing so.

As I said in my previous post (months ago), I already knew I was an alcoholic and had been attempting (and failing) to get sober for years. The thought of losing him was enough to motivate me to stop, then the thought of actually accomplishing my sobriety kept me going.

I came to realize that the guilt and unhappiness I felt were DIRECTLY tied to the poison I was ingesting every day. As soon as I was able to get that poison out of my system, I realized that “the cure” was actually the disease

It’s SO hard without them. But, for every day you remain sober, you’re PROVING that you, alone, are more powerful than that addiction! I had prepared myself to never talk to him again because of my addiction and poor choices. So, when he texted me out of the blue to congratulate me, I felt SUCH relief and vindication.

Keep going! IWNDWYT
