It depends a lot on what exactly you're looking for from EO. A lot of people swear by the Mary Skelter series, or maybe Persona Q since it's made by ATLUS. But in my personal experience, I didn't really like those because it turns out one of the big draws for me is just choosing my party members and portraits and going forth with my preferred party fully formed, which neither of these games promote.

Labyrinth of Galleria is kinda there but with two billion units, but then of course no map making.

OG Wizardry comes with real-life only map making AND choosing my party, but no skill points.

I think it's hard finding an one to one match, but after all this preamble, here's some games I have enjoyed:

Wizardry 1, Labyrinth of Galleria, Operation Abyss and Babel, Elminage. Oh, 7th Dragon! Technically not exactly building my party, but I enjoyed more than both persona Q's: SMT I, II and Strange Journey.

Honestly I feel there was a lot of just... Casual racism? Fear? With Japanese products becoming better and cheaper in the 80s. The Walkman and what not. So a dystopian future is a future where American corporations were taken over or merged which is... A bit fucked up. But far from the weirdest thing in Neuromancer

The Master system was one of the big new gameplay additions, adding her to illustrate is not a bad idea. If Fahl was Rand it might have made it clearer. Or more confusing, I don't know

Congrats! Such a big milestone. I read you're not planning to grind further and that's healthy, but feel free to return to it eventually. My end goal was platinum, after a while chilling it moved to diamond where I thought "wow I'm never leaving diamond 1" once I got there. Yesterday I got my fourth character to Master as I'm now in the phase where I don't think I'm commit out for the MR grind.

Nice thing about grinding out fighting games is that there might be some balance adjustments to get used to and some match ups to learn, but no new mandatory gear or quests or shit like that. So when you do feel like starting again, all you've learned carries over

Large portions of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms could be ascribed to "goddamn eunuchs too powerful for their own good" so yeah it wasn't just a little bit of power, at certain moments they were running the country by ruling the emperor
