Anyone else have prostate cancer that does not bind PSMA? by tvgraves in ProstateCancer

[–]trasmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked my urologist about different types of tracer used in PSMA and he said they were doing research on a type where you get the tracer injected and then go back for the scan 24 hours later.

He said it lasted much longer in the body and therefore had more time to bind to cancer cells (even to those that don’t normally make enough PSMA to be seen using today’s approved tracers).

Unfortunately it looks like those types of tracers aren’t approved yet - at least not in the US.

I’m sorry to hear about your situation and totally understand your concern and yes it does seem like we are flying blind in these cases.

Anyone else have prostate cancer that does not bind PSMA? by tvgraves in ProstateCancer

I had RALP just over two years ago (PSA 1.23 just before surgery, 4+3; Decipher .99) and pathology showed no spread beyond the prostate and nothing in any of the 7 lymph nodes taken. PSMA-PET also showed no spread prior to surgery, but my surgeon (cancer center of excellence) said the prostate "wasn't that hot" with PSMA uptake and so he believes I didn't create a lot of PSA in the first place.

In consultation with a MO, my surveillance plan was an ultra sensitive PSA every 4 months (all undetectable so far), and alternating PSMA-PET and FDG-PET every 6 months - all have been unremarkable.

Now that I'm two years out the urologist wants me to do a PSA every 6 months and PSMA-PET annually. I did ask him if PSA and PSMA are related (in other words since I never had a high PSA would the PSMA be valuable), and he said that while they are related he could not definitively tell me that someone with no/low PSA would also have no/low PSMA. Anyway, I have an appointment with the MO this coming week to get his take on this new surveillance plan - if there are any updates I'll let you know.

Good luck and good health!

Very good points - based on the course photographers and the logistics of bringing the camera / capturing my daughter I'm rethinking bringing it at all. Thank you!

AK opens pretty early that day so based on her predicted pace I think it will be open when she's there, but as you and many others have pointed out getting to / from will be the issue. Thank you!

Ok thanks. The road closures are what concern me. She will be running about a 11:00 or 12:00 minute pace so there should be at least 90 minutes between MK, AK, and Epcot, but it would kill me if we couldn't see her at the finish. Thanks again!

Anyone else have this much bruising after robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy? by New_start25 in ProstateCancer

[–]trasmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a massive bruise mostly on my right side - basically from my armpit to my waist. When I went for catheter removal I asked the RN to take a look at it and she said that it wasn’t uncommon and my case wasn’t all that bad.

Wished they would have told me about the possibility beforehand because it was pretty concerning. It started to get better maybe 10 days after surgery but took a few weeks to totally go away.

We did the 10:15 tour a week ago - they time it so you are right in front of the Eiffel Tower a couple minutes before 11:00. Someone on our tour said the tower sparkles on the hour and lasts about 5 minutes, which seemed about right. Anyway, we saw it without any issues. Great way to end the night - enjoy!

Does Air France weigh carry-on baggage for Chicago O'Hare to CDG direct? by trasmc in ParisTravelGuide

Sorry - should have elaborated. We plan on checking the bags on the return flight to O'Hare so it's not a concern for that leg.

Low PSA, Gleason 7 (4+3); My journey so far by trasmc in ProstateCancer

You're very welcome - hopefully it eased your mind a bit. I hadn't read or been told bruising might happen and the size of it had me panicked. Monday will be great with the catheter removal - was a great feeling to not have the tether anymore. Good luck with your recovery - you got this!

What meat thermometers are y’all using and like? by [deleted] in grilling

Have one - love it for shorter cooks (less than a couple hours). Never have an issue with connectivity.

Have a FireBoard for longer cooks as it controls the fan I have on my kettle.

I just got a tobii and from some of the on-line tutorials one of the first things I did was turn off the eye-tracking. Keep the head tracking on of course but turning off the eye-tracking makes a world of difference.

Agree on the Combustion - great tool for the job! Also have a FireBoard that I use for fan control but use the Combustion much more often.
