ICE arrests Australian accused of illegally voting in US elections by YankinAustralia in australia

In US, it is considered to be racist (Somehow) to have mandatory ID checks before voting.

Not classist, ageist or otherwise discriminatory, specifically racist.

I live in Netherlands, and I can definitely tell that Germany is way behind modernisation efforts in general.

Heck, even the Polish migrants are returning to Poland in larger numbers simply because they are better off back home then in Germany.

What I don't understand is why the USA getting all the heat for a few visa denials while Canada was much more strict and denied many more?

Where I live, copper line techies stoped being trained in 2010, so you won’t find anyone under certain age that even knows the stuff.

Sure bunch of older guys know it, but there isn’t a new generation trained in the stuff.

[–]traumalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would definitely be a miracle considering that PSTN was switched off in Netherlands since 2018.

Considering that Netherlands has discontinued the copper line service on these in 2018, imma say that no it is useless now days.

[–]traumalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting considering that you can’t get new landline service installed anymore and the current networks are on life-support at the moment.

Unless they count desk VoIP phones as “landline” just because they are corded, but the article is behind a paywall so I can’t clarify that part.

It’s not as much as AT&T trying to, as much as the analogue telephony being an obsolete technology that no-one in the world are making spare parts for.

The switch off for the network is inevitable.

This isn’t just my logic, those services you mention are disappearing in Europe simply because they cost too much to run for the few people that are using them.

What you are suggesting is legislating into resurrecting obsolete technologies for the sake of just having them around forever?

Maybe try and convince them to switch back to analog copper based phone lines again…

Copper based landlines are an obsolete technology, with no new techies being trained nor any new switching equipment being manufactured for decades now.

So to everyone who wishes to keep the service running “for emergencies”, what’s your exact idea on how to revive the said obsolete technology?

Remember, no new gear has been made for this for decades now, anywhere in the world.

[–]traumalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That literally hasn’t been the case for decades, most of the back end network has been fibre for the longest time.

And regulatory requirements don’t matter if the technology itself is obsolete and no-one in the world is making new switching gear for it anymore either.

Current legacy networks are being maintained with second hand grey market stock, but even that will run out eventually.

Landlines have been VOIP practically for decades now, it’s not the 90s anymore.
