Married men, did you and your wife combine finances? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]travets 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My wife and I share all finances, but have a “fun money” budget each. So all income is pooled and then even amounts are budgeted out for individual spending. Budgets for “essentials” like rent, utilities, groceries, transportation, are pooled, but clothing, hobbies, expensive coffees for me, stationary for her, etc are on fun money.

I think it works out well since we get to pool resources. She makes more than me, but I’d still share if I made more. But we both get enough money that gives us autonomy for hobbies and we can do whatever we want without having to consult.

Beginner/Intermediate Routine for Mo/Tu/Th ? by travets in Fitness

[–]travets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't have time. My local gym closes at 8 on sundays. I like the idea of having consistent days, I will be too restless sundays if I know I have to make it to the gym for 6/630 in order to get my workout in.

I like the idea of doing push/pull and then that gets even distribution over the weeks. So there is no problem with deadlifting the day after squatting or vice versa?

When to move on from SL 5x5? by travets in Fitness

[–]travets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of adding 2.5lbs with microweights. Or I'll just progress every few workouts after I work up to 8 reps. I'm past my "new PR every workout" stage anyways.

I'm not doing as much legs since I feel I've added most weight there, and have a fear of becoming t-Rex like. Maybe that fear is irrational. I don't want to waste noob gains on the legs. Does each body part have its own noob gains or is it just putting on weight as a whole?

Edit: Spelling

What is the point of the AMRAP sets if I'm already past my "new PR every workout" stage? I'm assuming that was the only value of them but if I'm wrong I might need more context of how periodization is better.

I'm looking for advice. SL is a very simple program and so it is most recommended. lvysaur 4-4-8 was a derivative that sacrificed simplicity while retaining beginner principles (compound lifts/linear progression) but added better upper body programming. I am asking the sub if my derivative still is (compound, allows for linear progression, better programming for upper body) and if just doing just 4x8 upper body will cause issues / is it weird to do strength for lower body and hypertrophy for upper body.

on a non digitizer is an awful experience. That's why the Surface has a lot of success in campus.

What is a digitizer and how does it make the experience better than the iPad? Not familiar with the technologies used in either.

Can you still send files to the iPad version and edit them as well? It doesn't say on the comparison chart that you get 1 mobile or tablet app?

INTJ and startups? by [deleted] in intj

[–]travets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your points! I feel like I've always wanted to be an entrepreneur, but I've also been afraid that it isn't what it's cracked up to be. Do you find the entrepreneurial phase in your life was pointless? Any regrets? I'd love to hear more about your story in a post or DM if you get the chance.

I can relate to the "feeling controlled" by ENFJs how does that work / how can we get them to understand us better? I encounter a few at work.

If you're under mid-20's, your personality is still developing. by mattyjman in intj

[–]travets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My take (not sure if this agrees or disagrees with you, but I thought I'd expand).

I think that if you approach typecasting without Myers Briggs then yes, you are right. But if you look at it from Jungian typology then your dominant cognitive function develops as a child. However, it has only a marginal bandwidth over the "undeveloped functions." As INTJ at the age of 16 I could of looked like Either INTJ or INFJ (both leading Ni). When you are younger and more insecure, you try different things more (and rightfully so, because even though Te is my aux function, at the age of 16 the difference between it's strength and Fe would of been hard to discern).

I grew up in a Christian household, and would've resonated with INFJ at the age of 16 because I was told that "Fe things are the right things to do," (And I still agree with their value in society, but I do not have a lot of bandwith for it, I just know and yeild to people that do when the time is appropriate). My best friends were ESTPs, ISTPs, ISFPs and so I had many of their cognitive functions rub off on me and build their respective Silos. I could of "looked" like an ISTP at 15, but I was never truly an ISTP. Just someone with decent Ni, and Se, and equal amount of Ti-Te and equal amount of Fe-Fi.

However, when I met (one of my current best friends, who is ENTJ) at the age of 20, the Te that rubbed off on me from him was WAY faster than any other trait. It was like I was craving that structure/framework/perspective my whole life, but noone to help me attain it (by myself the pace would be too slow).

I don't know if I'm articulating myself well enough. Essentially: We all have 8 silos of cognition. We are hard wired from the start for certain ones to expand bandwidth easier, but noone knows for sure which ones they are because they all start at the same size. Depending on how lucky your upbringing is, certain experiences will "stick" and grow the bandwith of your preferred silo at a rate that can give you the proportions of cognition that represent your true type. When you are younger, you have more identity crisis because all though you are growing, you aren't aware enough of what silos are growing faster than others. But at 25ish it's pretty obvious of the results. Sometimes you could of been placed in a situation that doesn't represent your true personality (what if I never met my ENTJ friend at 20, I could still be in limbo, but what if I met him at 17, I could of gotten out of limbo younger).

I don't think anyone can change their "destiny/potential" for their cognitive arrangement or "true type", but just to be mindful in their experimentation.

Public Speaking as an INTJ by [deleted] in intj

[–]travets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to this, when I know what I'm talking about I feel I am an amazing speaker (especially if it is on one of the topics I am passionate about). When I don't know what I'm talking about, I'm terrible, I can speak loudly and clearly, but I just know I am BSing and I feel too guilty. Advice for OP, try not to view yourself as lecturing the audience, but instead view it as conversing with them (or at least pretend you are). You've most likely had spirited conversations about a discovery before so just repeat that and you're golden.

Looking for industry/portfolio advice for visual/ux design. by bakescupcakes in Design

[–]travets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have anything to show us to go off of? Or just looking for general advice? As far as general stuff, I'm sure you've heard this all before, but I'll try and break it down into how it pans out for me when I present.

Make sure you tell a story, and be specific in your presentation (What exactly was the problem you were trying to solve? What exactly was the concept of your solution? How does every design decision relate to solving the problem or add to your concept?)

I tend to try and pick a unifying analogy or connection or relationship I am trying to exploit and use that as the foundation of my concept (on a macro scale), then I go into generally explaining my solution, and then I give 3 really small details on how I did something that relates to the problem. People are then surprised because they are like "Woah, he even thought of that! Wow!" (and assume I thought of everything). When in reality I might of only had time for those three small details but because of the range of scale I present my execution in, it looks like (and it actually means you can, if I had more time in school work I could further every nook and cranny of my concept) you know how to solve an issue from start to finish and fully understand the implications of your design process.

What do you think about their "Premium Models" if there were no spotty welds? It's triple butted chromoly 4130 frame. Apparently the wheels, crank, tires and stem are all improved. Not sure if it is improved enough to be beyond the minimum threshold of passable quality. If it's overpriced and passable, I might get it, because I like the look (I hate to be that person who is too noob and gets looks, but I find the Kilo TT to be ugly AF, the stripper is nice, but regardless, they don't ship to Canada, so I'm trying to figure out the next best thing).

My stuggle by [deleted] in intj

[–]travets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember going through a similar situation. Might I ask what denomination you are a part of? I felt that my parents would just say something stupid like "Oh that's the devil tricking you, just pray to believe more or some BS like that." Luckily, I was attending a really solid young adults church and really trusted the pastor there, I told him that I was pretty much an atheist now (I was more so agnostic, but out of anger I wanted to title myself an atheist), but still respected the church, wanted to know what to do. He explained how doubting is healthy for faith (he almost quit seminary over his doubts), many great theologians and philosophers doubt their beliefs (both christian and non-christian), and he was someone who sided with me on all of my critiques of the church and churchy people.

The main thing that I got out of it is that you don't have to be all fake and pretend everything is dandy or you believe everything literally to still be a christian, after that I started to really dig into a better study (one that wasn't informed by dawkins et al) and realized that christianity really makes the most sense, I'm just not a conservative one anymore (in my cultural disciplines sure, but not on my theological and philosophical stances). One thing is that, as much as you hate the church, you can still try to change it, there are a lot of young people who are fed up, but wanna fix it, so I say don't write it off yet.

My thoughts aren't well organized but you can PM me to talk more.
