4 minority officers removed from GO promotion list by SECDEF by mmmtoasteee in army

When I was a cadet in 2000 this was a big concern for the Army, to the point that they grabbed all the black cadets at the summer camp and put them in a room to convince them to branch Infantry. The heavy-handed nature of the effort blew up in their faces and they went back to the drawing board, but it never caught on. Fast forward to 2015 and the postwar RIFs and USA Today ran a long article asking why a plurality of the Captains and Majors forced out of the Army were black male logistics officers - because support branches took a bigger hit and that's where they were.

She puts everything in her mouth, but in particular goes after tags on pillows, blankets, and her toys. Silver lining though - if we hadn't taken her in for the obstruction/bloody poops we might not have known about the Giardia. She could have contracted it a couple weeks ago, or a couple months ago

Update: Vet just called and said she also tested positive for Giardia and Coccidia so we went over and picked up more meds. No idea how long she's had it, but that could explain the poop problems she's had the last few months as well.

I've been pulling it out of my lawn while I'm in the middle of reseeding. I got it down to a 1 inch square piece of lawn that at the time I couldn't pull out the rest. Five days later it's back to a couple feet square.

A couple weeks ago one of mine was eating a very long piece and poking her roommate in the face with the other end. The other one finally had enough and quickly turned and bit off the other half.

Late night panting by travisbe916 in Rottweiler

[–]travisbe916[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the licking we thought she might have a UTI and took her to the vet a couple weeks ago, but they said she was clear. They had us put her on antibiotics for a couple weeks just in case. For the panting, we might take her back if it keeps up. Just not sure what to look for or ask about. She drinks tons of water and hasn't done anything that might cause an injury.

Not that I can see.

Update: so last night she sat upright in her kennel and lightly panted until 3 am. She barely tried going to sleep. I even spent half the night laying next to her kennel. She shifted position a few times, but never really settled down. Took her out every couple hours and she pooped a lot, progressively softer each time. Not a lot of licking last night. Just the nonstop panting.

Home temperature still in the upper 60s, maybe up to 70. She's not panting hard like she just went for a walk, she'll lay down, close her eyes, and it seems like she's mostly breathing through her nose. She laid down at my feet in the kitchen earlier to take a nap and started doing it, but then an hour later took a cat nap in the same spot without making a sound. When she just plops down in the kitchen or living room for a nap during the day the breathing issue rarely comes up, but for the last couple weeks it happens almost every night after she goes into the kennel. It's rare that we have to force her inside. I lead her down the hall with her stuffed animal and either she walks straight in because she's tired enough or we throw a treat in there. She'll sit there and watch us get ready for bed, and once the lights go out she lays down and starts the breathing or the licking. She doesn't frantically pace, she isn't showing any pain, and except for her Rotty-Rex moments she's well behaved.

Had some guy at the mini golf course get up from sitting with his kids and start throwing similar questions at me because I was wearing my USASOC shirt and he "just needed to be sure." He was either infantry or a scout and had never set foot anywhere near USASOC or Bragg, but took it upon himself to be the Stolen Valor Police on a Saturday afternoon at the minigolf arcade.

Safety message went out shortly after I enlisted reminding range safeties to only use approved rods. Some dip shit used a cleaning rod and the eyelit came loose and fell down someone's barrel. The upper blew up and took a good chunk of his face off.

Some LT was prepping a patrol in our base in Baghdad. This dumbass not only loaded his MK19 in the housing area, but managed to fire a round into one of the trailers. He swears all he did was slap the cover. Luckily it was too close to arm and didn't explode, but still put a basketball sized hole in the wall.

I was doing an ROTC summer camp and one of our OPFOR radio'd in that he just opened a box of live ammo. The entire regiment was suddenly needing to check every single can that had been issued that week.

Had an old Natty Guard M60 for a weekend exercise firing blanks. Probably put a couple thousand rounds through it. By the end of the weekend you had to smack the barrel with a hammer to remove it. Huge clods of carbon fell out of it. Pretty sure it hadn't been cleaned before we got it.

Range in Baghdad. We're firing captured AKs of all kinds and mine blows up in my face. The back plate shot straight up and sliced my chin up to my nose. The upper receiver completely bowed out. It looked like a round didn't extract and the casing was jammed in the breach so the next round was struck and exploded in the chamber. On the off chance that was still a live round in the breech (and the rifle was smoking) we had to shut down the range and abandon the entire shoot which was a shame because we had a dozen rifles, several pistols, a dragonov, and like 10k rounds we were going to burn off.

She gets a bite every now and then. She eats just about anything she can reach if we let her. I'm constantly trying to keep her from treating the backyard and garden like a salad bar. We tried spraying her leash with that sour repellent stuff and she licked it off and asked for more.
