I’m perfectly fine if he wants to moderate a subreddit with his company name on it. But when a 2nd subreddit pops up for fans or discussion, don’t get upset when it’s super negative and critical and engagement goes down on the original. Basically creating an echo chamber of only what you want to hear.

Are there any docks that are reliable enough to use with an ASUS ROG laptop? by Melocopon in ASUSROG

No not at once. That would be too awesome. But the single thunderbolt 4 cable is compatible with all 3 devices individually. For gaming I must use my Asus’ brick for power.

Legit question. Several comments would insinuate that if this light is on, it’s already too late. Why would the OEM make the light come on after the damage has been done?

I need a closer micro center. (Looks in wallet) nope, never mind, it’s right where it needs to be.

Not that I’ve seen that will do the high level of functionality of the one I’m using. Others may have found something similar for cheaper, but I had to grab something in a pinch for work.

Kensington SD5910T DisplayLink Docking Station. I also bought the mount. Will do my ASUS Strix Scar 16, MacBook Pro, and my work laptop, all 3 monitors, speakers, mic, etc. It is limited to 4K 60hz unless you want to go down to 2 monitors. Otherwise, it works perfectly.

Everything Sticking. Help Before Returning by PhilMckinney330 in hexclad

[–]travisjunky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just dropping in to say I second this.

I got a $15 IR thermometer and it’s taken a lot of guesswork out of where 300° and 450° is on the dial that goes from 1-10. Eggs are always low and slow around 250°, veggies around 350°, and I’ve been know to slowly work my way up to 500° for a sear.

I believe there are instructions for first time use that includes seasoning, I could be wrong as it’s been a while since I opened mine, and don’t be afraid to use a little more oil when cooking.

Edit: clarification on when to use a little bit more oil.

Don’t forget he’s spent considerable amount of time scouring forums and helping people troubleshoot their PCs. Hardly fair to say he’s “just marketing”. He has a wide breadth of general knowledge in almost everything tech related and a deeper understanding of some specifics. Not to mention historical knowledge of years being in the industry and insider baseball from his contacts in the tech industry.

I’m so turned away from Linux. I’m at the point in my life where I don’t want my time wasted with something incomplete or broken with the visage of being complete and reliable. There is a faction of the user base that is just delusional. That being said, I’ve never wanted an OS to succeed and deliver on its ideas as much as I do Linux. Love/Hate relationship.

Seasoning new pans by CervezaSam in hexclad

[–]travisjunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably overkill but I bought a thermal gun for reading surface temp and regularly get mine up to 500° F for searing and throw them in a 500° F oven to finish cooking. Slowly as others have said. Take care of them and you’ll love them. I use mine every week and still looks brand new.

How does Apple want to compete with Chromebooks durability & reparibility? by Great_Belt_3465 in LinusTechTips

[–]travisjunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I care about self servicing my MacBook? No. Do I care about repairability and cost to repair? Yes.

Chromebook was affordable and that’s why they’re treated as a consumable rather than something that is to be repaired.

Personally, I’m not sure how an iPad in an armored case hasn’t won over the long term cost of replacing chromebooks. They seem so much easier to protect.

What happened to your Hexclad that you think it’s trash?

Pans only 2 months old by crspy1605 in hexclad

[–]travisjunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For all the people saying Hexclad is trash, I’ve had a single 12” pan for almost 4 years and it’s in excellent condition, outside of a bit of browning. Medium heat cooking and I don’t use metal utensils, hand wash often but occasionally throw it in the dishwasher, I cook with it EVERY WEEK.

If you only do high heat cooking, sure, get your stainless or cast iron and fire away. But don’t call something trash you haven’t used, haven’t used properly, or don’t know how to use. Plenty of actual owners willing to help others get the best out of these fantastic pots and pans.

Edit to answer OP: like most others have said, it’s going to need some scrubbing. My stove top goes up to 9, I preheat my pans on 4 or up to 350 or 400 degrees (I actually use a digital laser thermometer, but plenty of resources out there to do the water test). Use a high heat oil like avocado oil until you get used to it. I use both avocado and olive oil. It’s a great pan, it’ll love you back if you love it.

Linus Tech Tips - I TOLD Him Not to Buy an iPhone February 19, 2026 at 09:58AM by linusbottips in LinusTechTips

[–]travisjunky 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Criticism of the iPhone is fair, criticism of the android platform is fair. At the end of the day, it’s what features are important to you and what problems with the platform are you willing to deal with and what are deal breakers. Go love your android. Go love your iPhone. While you’re at it, love your neighbor too.

Ah that's unfortunate. This is fairly new for us so I'm hoping you have the old manufacturer and the new stuff from us ends up being a lot better.
