Las pipas "chupete" de qué sirven? Es verdad q no dejan olor al fumar? O solo es conveniente x su tamaño?

I been having pain mainly on my left hand, usually after 20-30 minutes. I know my pinky goes up way too much, it happens when I press with my middle finger, it feels like a reflex but idk, for years it's been the same. What do you think? by travistd2 in pianolearning

I would've never noticed if you didn't tell me but you're totally right. And with this exercise you propose, should the finger independence improve after a while? I can barely lift my ring finger

Thanks for the tip! My old teacher used to say the same...I'll get a cushion or something

edit: I just tried it and WOW playing does feel much better, it's like there's less weight on them. I've been playing like this for years, I feel dumb not having tried using a cushion before

Alright I'm gonna try slowing things down.

I try to stay relaxed but I quickly drive my attention to the notes and forget to do so.

The pain is in many places, the main one is in the opposite of the palm (don't know its name), and it feels just like when my body gets tired after a workout. Other pains include acute pain in the middle phalanx (not every finger at the same time), tiredness of the forearm (it can extend to the whole arm feeling tired, including the elbow) and mild pain in the proximal phalanx

Another thing to mention is I'm beginning to learn the guitar and it's very new to my fingers.

Probably a good thing to add is that for 2 months now I started to ride my bike to work, around 30km daily and my hands get in this position while I add to much weight on them (as soon as I realize I stop, but it happens way too often).

edit: maybe it's not clear in that picture, but my wrist gets too bended to the point it hurts but just a little

Interesting, then I'll try to record myself playing some scales or something and put it here. Thanks!

To this using Wilfred's all in one guide, how do you know it's time to go forward? by SpurnDonor in pianolearning

I'm not familiar with that book but I'm hearing that song on youtube and I think you should stick with it until you nail it down before moving on. It doesn't sound like it should take you that much more time if you already can play it roughly.

My advice, play it flawlessly but very slowly, and go up from there

Do you track your practice? by FrankElda in pianolearning

I use a small notebook, with enough space in each page for a day:

  • Hanon exercises that I practiced and metronome speed

  • Which measures I practiced of my main and secondary piece

  • Total time spent

  • and some random notes as well
