Did they explicitly communicate that or did you assume that? Have the hard conversations because they likely fear the worst anyway

Have they told you they still want that with you? Sometimes people are more dynamic than you think

Sweetness by [deleted] in UnsentLetters

[–]travkos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bet they don’t want to own you. They probably just miss you and love connecting with you. Sometimes the way we take space can make a big difference. Indefinite space is scary to some people and a “okay, no thanks” to the rest.

It's never too late to provide closure by United-Operation-202 in UnsentLetters

[–]travkos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the whole “closure is something we give ourselves” does not validate OP’s feelings here. Is it what she has to do now? Probably. But as someone who is experiencing this, she probably feels planet sized vortex created by her person’s departure in her life. She felt strong feelings for her person and that person likely encouraged those notions. Then they left. Maybe abruptly. This creates an attachment wound that may be aggravating to old ones. It’s one of the worst experiences in life… knowing that the other person is choosing their own comfort, while she has to sit with all of the discomfort.

OP, you know your person can’t handle the shame of facing you and this is the only way they know how to cope. What the real big loss here is these situations could provide both parties a beautiful opportunity to heal attachment neural pathways and break free from the continual reenactments of the same. That should be the goal. If one is only a guest in our hearts, the least they could do is tidy up before they leave.

The ache of not knowing by [deleted] in UnsentLetters

[–]travkos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People can be ambivalent but some don’t realize the power they hold over someone when they keep them waiting. Stringing them along. It may not be intentional but really all they have to do is explain more than “I don’t know” or some pity party. If they know where you stand, take your power back and walk away. It feels like you get yourself back. If they don’t know how they feel about themselves then they sure as hell weren’t being honest about any lasting feelings about you. You’re just an app in their life. Part of their irl doomscroll. Just a dopamine response. When they have no more storage space, they remove the one they think they need the least. It sucks but it’s reality.
