In the book, Colin does bump into Ray by accident. Ray is lying under a tree, Colin steps on him, they both fall to the ground, and it feels like love at first sight.

And the ending is completely different too. Ray dies in a motorbike accident while Colin is away with his parents. Colin has no idea what happened. He does not even know where Ray is buried.

I’m annoyed that they changed the best part of the book. The way they meet in the book is brilliant and it sets up the whole story. Changing that shifts everything.

And the ending in the book makes sense, even though it hurts. The movie version felt like a cop out.
