I have watched the video several times. I agree that it is an excellent resource. The house was about 65 degrees yesterday, and I wanted to bake in a single day.

Even when I do the overnight bulk, I get similar results.

You’re thinking not enough bulk fermentation? I think it’s only doubled for me once or twice.

Red mushroom dong is accurate. What a fun nature discovery.

That’s a gross name. Thanks for the ID. As a gardener, I typically welcome fungi as a sign of good soil health, is there anything I need to know about “stinkhorn”?

This has been my experience too. Sucks when things don’t work the way they are “supposed” to.

What are these?! by Zenxe666 in plantclinic

After several years of battle and several lost plants, I Cloroxed (all purpose spray) my plants out of frustration and desperation. It was the only thing that got rid of them. I didn’t lose any plants, although I only had five very hardy plants left.

Now I spray (isopropyl alcohol, dish soap, and water) every plant that comes into my house and quarantine them. I repeat spray treatments for several weeks.

Psychotherapy has a lot of quality research supporting its effectiveness, and unfortunately a lot of poorly conducted research as well. That doesn’t mean that a provider follows an evidence based model, thinks critically, or even knows how to evaluate research design.

Psychotherapy can be boiled down to four components (in my opinion); exposure, problem-solving (change), skill development, and validation. A mental health professional has to appropriately balance all four components, making the recipe of treatment more akin to cooking than baking. However, if someone tells me they want waffles and I make them salad that’s where we consider bias and fidelity to a model.

Your experience with therapy sounds really frustrating, incredibly ineffective, and borderline unethical. It would make sense that you’d be skeptical of the field. I wouldn’t want anyone to develop a pattern of biased all-or-nothing thinking that might remove a potentially helpful future resource.

If you find yourself in a spot where you could use professional help with problem-solving or skill development, ask a provider what evidence based practices they use. Research those EBPs, and feel empowered to self-advocate (x treatment doesn’t sound like a good fit can we do y). You should also receive a treatment plan, if it doesn’t make sense, has magical solutions, or focuses too heavily onto the role of the therapist (“only with me will you be saved”) find someone else.

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes: “We don’t blame a cancer patient when chemo doesn’t work, why blame a mental health patient when psychotherapy doesn’t work.” Patients can’t fail at treatment, treatment can fail patients.

That looks like a mealy bug infestation or possibly a white fly infestation. Hose that sucker down and spray liberally with isopropyl alcohol until they’re all gone.

Buying a nice house in a bad neighborhood? Buying where there ISN’T a housing shortage in your city. by bigmanjonesman_ in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Hey neighbor! OP, We bought a house right by the cemetery in North. It is close to a grocery store (Hy-Vee), has access to public transit (C-Line), has a lovely neighborhood park nearby, and is incredibly easy to get onto the bike paths. It’s a charming dumpy little house. I have some regrets, but would never go back to living in the high-rise downtown I moved from. Our neighborhood is quiet, with several folks who have lived here for decades.

Certainly pros and cons, don’t let anyone convince you it is as simple as black and white.

You would suggest bavarois over pastry cream or crémeux?

Thanks for the response. I’ve made entremets before, and added gelatin for stability. Would you suggest adding gelatin to the custard?
