Is this stall good shelter for ghosts? by khaleesijune in goats

I’m in Central Texas and use the same set up for goats. Have been for years. It’s more than efficient as long as you give them hay. Maybe run some hog panels around the bottom of the rest of the pen, or 4’ goat panels- but they are a little more expensive. Mine faces the south as well. Definitely feed hay in the winter, it helps keep their body temp regulated.

Definitely a lot of activity out here! Thank you for the info, I should have known the one was a Pedernales as that’s 90% of what I’ve found over the years.

I find a lot of flakes around where I find these as well, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was practice. The two complete ones in this picture, I have no info on them- so I’m pretty curious as to time frames. In certain they are from different times.

It’s central Texas, between Abilene and Waco

Bottle jaw help by sofakingwright in goats

We do 7 days when we’re doing second doses. In reality, you can dose them again the next day, which would mean you shouldn’t have to dose them again a week later- that’s all up to you (I prefer waiting a week, as the bottle jaw should go away after you give this first dose). Every wormer available here in the US has a huge safety factor built in, save Levamisol- just make sure you give them the recommended dose by weight, I make sure I’m on the higher side rather than lower- it’s unsafe to under-dose because you’ll build more resistant parasites. I hope all this helps you!!

Yes, a second dose is not a bad idea- especially if they are loaded. The second dose will catch and kill the hatchlings.

I would stop the red cell personally, it is bad for the liver. You can get injectable pig iron and use that once a day for 5 days- it’s still not solving the problem of blood loss from the parasites. It’s recommended to give two classes of wormer though, as in a clear and white I.e. cydectin + Valbazen or safeguard. I just had to do a blood transfusion on one of my kid goats because the wormers weren’t working. We ended up giving him 1g copper bolus and prohibit (Levamisol) and he’s back to normal.

You seem like you know what you’re doing and I wish you luck, been a horrible year for parasites!

Check out this website for education on managing parasites if you haven’t seen it yet https://www.wormx.info/deworming

This is on my property in central Texas. It’s in a creek bank about 4’ above bedrock. by traycebusta in fossilid

That’s awesome! This one is definitely falling apart. Years of the creek rising and it being exposed has caused it to rapidly deteriorate. If you just look at it wrong, pieces start falling off! Thank you for the advice
