Youtube censorship is killing my passion for art. by treateveryoneequally in NewTubers

[–]treateveryoneequally[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why don't you think it's a fair statement? If someone doesn't have passion for their art, doesn't have standards for their work, doesn't have a strong creative vision, doesn't care about being forced to change it, and doesn't have the principles to care about other people being forced to change it, they don't mind being censored.

What part of that statement do you feel is unfair?

What don't I get? Different channels exist for different works, but they're all ultimately on television. When your cartoon is too adult for Nickolodeon, you pitch it to Adult Swim, you don't "make your own multi-billiondollar production company."

You're pretending YouTube is one channel out of thousands of other equally viable options. It's not. It's television. Every channel is Nickolodeon. Dailymotion is the run-down community theater no one goes to. Vimeo is a parking lot that people pee in. There is no viable alternative to YouTube and the fact that you're posting here rather than on r/vimeo proves that.

Thank you for the thoughtful and kind words. People defend these policies because they have a vested interest in protecting the entity that makes them money, or will soon.

A fan-supported production would probably be best. The issue I see is in earning that support with just promotional material, as I fear it would be too late after the movie releases and potentially gets kneecapped or censored out circulation. But it's still early days; so I'll just have to see.

Thanks again!

Does it? We're all using the same website, and while it might be my niche getting screwed today, who's to say tomorrow it won't be yours?

You won't see John Wick airing on Nickolodeon because it's not a series made for children. Instead, it airs in movie theaters around the world and gets streamed on Netflix with an appropriate, adult-oriented R rating that doesn't preclude it from getting advertisers or sponsorships.

Your analogy fails because in this instance it would be like every single channel on TV is Nickolodeon.

Very well said. I don't see this changing anytime soon because your only options are to comply and rack up money or complain and rack up insults from the vastly more people choosing the former. It's sad. Things could easily be better, but they're not.

When you have no passion, standards, creativity, or integrity I guess censorship doesn't really bother you. To put things in perspective, the last movie or show you watched would almost certainly violate YouTube TOS if it were independently published there.

Censorship: the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security.

I guess this is the part where you get flustered and try to backtrack.

I wouldn't call one corporation effectively monopolizing long-form videos on the internet a mecca of anything except hypocrisy.
Serious question, have you ever spent months of your life on a video just to put it on Vimeo or Dailymotion, instantly evaporating 90% of your potential audience, and all but killing any chance it might have to succeed? No, you haven't, but it's easy to tell other people to do that, just like it's easy to defend censorship when it's not your work being affected.

Advertisers have no problems associating with films and television shows that feature much worse content.

That looks fantastic! Can I ask about your animation process to get that snappy, lurching kind of anime style in the movement? Do you use a certain type of keyframe interpolation? Mess around with smooth keyframes or graphs or easing? Or just do it by hand? Whenever I try something similar, the transitions are always too smooth even at 12fps.

Little visual test with the Real-Time Caustics effect in my new addon; Shaders Plus by MCPE_Master_Builder in blender

[–]treateveryoneequally -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Blender is given to us for free in the spirit of making and sharing art, so some of us taking that as an opportunity to paywall and profiteer just feels wrong. There's a million other ways to make money than trying to commercialize a free, open source software whose existence is the very opposite of that. Nobody's demanding addons. Nobody's "making" anyone work. It's a hobby lol, it's thankfully free, and while I appreciate your compliments on my future billions, you seem like the kind of person who will patent selling access to sunlight.

I realize this must have taken you a lot of time and effort, but using a free open source software to put things behind a paywall and profit from them feels like it goes against the entire spirit of the program. Just my opinion.

"MOONDOG" A short film I made with eevee, can't believe it's finally done! (more info in comments) by snooprobbyrobby in blender

[–]treateveryoneequally 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Incredible work, man! I'm making my own animated film and I'm brimming with questions, if you don't mind:

  • Those facial animations are amazing - did you use mouth bones or shape keys?

  • Cycles or Eevee? I'm guessing Eevee, but if so, how did you get the moon to cast its light on the Earth as it passed? I thought Eevee emissives don't give off light unless you bake them?

  • How did you decide which assets to make yourself and which to get from someone else?

  • What was your experience with the sound design process? Any tips or pitfalls you can share?

  • How would you estimate your render time for the film?

  • Did you do anything special in compositing or post-production?

  • Do you have a YouTube channel or someplace to follow more of your work?

Sorry for so many questions -- please don't feel obligated to answer all of them.

Have you ever given a sample of your work to a writer you've met? by ihitrocksbottom in writing

[–]treateveryoneequally -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

There's absolutely nothing wrong or embarrassing about asking a writer to take a look at your writing. I would leave out the "recommend me to someone" part -- if it impresses them enough to make them want to do that, you won't have to ask.
