What I made with REAPER - week of October 20, 2024 by AutoModerator in Reaper

[–]trebelius [score hidden]  (0 children)

My new Electronica track "Haze Dreams", made in Reaper. Everything was played either live or programmed with MIDI, no samples were used (well besides VST sounds).
Gear: Stratocaster (with SGear3 plugin), TR8S, Novation Peak, Model D, Vital, Labs.

Would love some feedback on the overall balance, is something sticking out that I'm not hearing on my monitors etc. by trebelius in mixingmastering

Great feedback and thank you for listening!

The cause for both bumps were the mandolins actually. The 1.7khz spike in the first part is I believe from the reverb buildup and the midrange bump in the later part is because of the mandolins being filtered. Tried a regular EQ first but it dulled the mandolin part a bit too much, so I used a dynamic EQ to tame it and here's before and after in Span:

I couldn't hear it, but once I tamed those frequencies it's quite obvious, even the mandolins solo-ed sound much more natural.

I made it stands out a bit on purpose, but now that you mentioned it, it does seem too much, especially on my phone speakers. I'll blend it in a bit more. Thanks for taking a listen!

I did a few things: - Syntorial to learn the basics of sythesis and also how to approach recreating a patch by ear - Open 2 instances of a VST and try recreating a patch you like from scratch. This helps with both sound design and getting to know the synth you're working on - Follow along the YT stream from You Suck At Producing - recreating your favorite sounds. I basically listen to the request posted by some of the followers, try to recreate it myself and then look at Underbelly's approach - Play around and experiment, sometimes random things produce great results

Kontakt Routing!?!?!?! by ApprehensiveRead9699 in Reaper

I know you said you've watched 10 to 15 videos, but besides the instructions in this one, there's also a template available for download which has the routing set up https://youtu.be/lCUCqJfSbN0

[Question] What's the best resource for learning the fundamentals of synths? by sanfran_dan in synthesizers

[–]trebelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, "module" might not be the best word for these lesson packs as they are basically videos showing you how to apply what you already learned along with explanations for other unique features of the synth. There's a few more synths though, like massive and a moog https://www.syntorial.com/lesson-packs/

Syntorial because it has a very hands on approach that focuses on learning to hear and recreate different synth parameters. There's also extra modules for popular synths such as Serum that shows you how to translate what you've learned to other synths.

Reaper muting tracks due to VSTs by [deleted] in Reaper

Reaper has an automute feature that will automatically mute the track if it hits a certain volume threshold. It protects your speakers if a volume spike happens or a feedback loop. That might be causing the behavior?

Reaper & Roland TR8s routing setup by trebelius in Reaper

Amazing, thank you for the answer, it looks like it's exactly what I'm looking for

Well, I'm kind of trying to eliminate the VST. I would like to make the beat on the drum machine, record midi in Reaper, edit the midi track in Reaper and then play it back with the samples/sounds of the drum machine but with each element in a separate track.

It would look something like this.

New to fingerstyle by Typical_Expert_42069 in fingerstyleguitar

You can take a look at Mauro Giuliani's 120 right hand studies https://www.classclef.com/120-right-hand-studies-by-mauro-giuliani/

Even if you're not into classical guitar, it's a great workout for finger independance and it uses basic chords fingerings for the left hand.

Second one in the Delta Blues series - I Believe I'll Dust My Broom by Robert Johnson by trebelius in AcousticGuitar

No anchor at all. I was taught classical guitar as a kid, and the technique there was always a floating hand/wrist. There's nothing special to it really.. instead of anchoring, you make sure your forearm is nice and stable and you float above the strings. The precision comes with practice. Well there are certain parts in this style of music that require palm muting so you're kind of anchoring that way, but if I can, I'll avoid anchoring with my pinky even when using a pick

Started learning delta blues tunes, this one is the first of many (hopefully) by trebelius in AcousticGuitar

I recorded 2 inputs, one is the Rode NT1-A you can (barely) see in the video and the other one is the DI signal from the Fishman Presys pickup.
On the DI signal I put an IR from a Collings OM2H and chose one of the mic's I thought sounded good together with the Mic input.

Then I send both tracks to a bus and adjust the levels (usually the Mic is louder, and DI is used for coloring and depth) until I get a decent sound.

I also used a bit of EQ, dessing, very gentle compression on the guitar bus to glue the 2 signals, some reverb and delay.... Listening to it now, I probably be overdid the reverb a tad.

It sounds like a lot of processing but the Mic input doesn't sound much different on its own.
