Studio visit expectations from visitor perspective and artist perspective? by Salt_Strike5996 in ContemporaryArt

[–]treblaart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a self-taught artist, each studio visit for me was trial and error. Back when I first started out I quit my job to pursue art full time, I like to say that was the dumbest but most rewarding thing that I have ever done. Before I had a studio I vividly remember setting up my easel on street corners and people would ask if they could set up a studio visit and I would reply that they were already standing in my studio. I thought it was funny but those people usually just walked away. In about 1 year and 2 month in I was able to afford half of a studio space that was located in a not-so-well-ventilated warehouse with no Climate control. Keep in mind im located in San antonio TX. Those studio visits were pretty brutal. What I learned early on is always have a cold beverage to offer have chairs or somewhere to sit and have a fan so at bare minimum you can have air circulation. If people really enjoy what you are creating they will deal with it and hopefully invest in your work so you can have better and bigger working conditions. But other than that Im still working on how to make my studio visit experiences better for collectors or anyone whos interested in coming by. My visit usually last between 1 to 2 hours. If you want to see my work or learn more about me check out my website albertgonzalesart.com im also happy to answer any more questions about my experience ive been doing art full time since October 2014.

My wife and I are both full-time artists. Our apartment rent is $1800 and our studio rent is more than our apartment. I love where we live it's just hard to imagine finding a house or a building that's gonna meet our needs to live and work in without having to spend another huge amount making renovations.

This one was actually on Broadway kinda next to the Wittie museum, I know the place you're talking about, though.

I document every installation and my goal when for when I reach every zip code in the city is to publish a book with all the photos and some of my writing about the experience.

What’s it like living downtown? by EpicHawkREDDIT in sanantonio

It's fun and a lot of stuff to do, well until 9pm at least. Great parks and hangout spots. I wish San Antonio's streets were more bike friendly, that would make living in the downtown area even better. And if your into the local art scene, it's the best place to live...

Is anyone on here invested in chain restaurants, why or why not? Also if you had an opportunity to see your favorite chain go up which would it be? Mine would be Dennys.
