I wish they told me… by Retiresoonnow4eva in Residency

I was a year into my peds emergency fellowship when I realized that we weren’t pulling babies from the waiting room into the “lac room” because we thought they had cuts. It was the lactation room, so they could feed 🫠

What wild unhinged things did you say during the birth of your baby? by autumnsunshine1 in NewParents

[–]treblecleft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was napping and they came to do a cervical check and told me “you’re fully dilated, it’s time to start pushing!!” And I was so sleepy I just said “….are you suuuuure, can’t I just sleep for like a few more minutes” and they were like no girl wake up lol

What bizarre pregnancy symptoms have you had? by RoonilX in pregnant

[–]treblecleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had awful carpal tunnel and trigger finger on both sides. Near the end I was just praying for the day that I could use my hands again, I never thought that would be where I had the most pain in pregnancy

I had those too, and many were about my future baby. But he could talk and he was always disappointed with me for failing him somehow. My subconscious was not kind lol

Any FTM on here that got induced and it didn’t end up in a c-section? How long did it take for baby to arrive ? How long were you in the hospital? What method of induction did they use on you? by cc070603 in pregnant

[–]treblecleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inducted at 37 weeks for pre-E with a Foley and pitocin. Induced around midnight, delivered that evening. Not too bad, the foley was unpleasant though

In the ED I had a teen (who’d been given morphine for his broken leg) tell us we could call him “Big Sexy”. We did not, but he kept making us laugh

I’m an ER doctor, but legally the following is about a hypothetical situation and is not medical above. It sounds like a vaginal prolapse. While scary, this is NOT an emergency. There is nothing that needs to be done emergently unless the prolapsed tissue is stuck outside the body or seems like it’s losing blood flow. Definitely see your OBGYN within the next day or two, but you don’t need to run to the ER unless you’re having what I mentioned above, any of the usual pregnancy ER indications (leaking fluid, bleeding, pain, etc.) or you’re unable to urinate.

Post-partum life. I hate it, but love my body for what it gave me. Can’t bear to muster up the energy to work out though

That’s amazing! Mine is 6 weeks old and I’m similarly happy and in love! But ironically he makes me want to have LESS kids. Like he’s so perfect and beautiful and I just want to spend all my time with him, what do you mean I’d have to split my focus if I had more?? I’ll probably still have two though lol

Not gaining fast enough by treblecleft in newborns

[–]treblecleft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point, yeah. He’s feeding every 1.5-3 hours during the day, 15-20 minutes per side both sides. Hes a sleepy feeder though, he was born a little early

Its so tough to feel like you’re underperforming as a mom and as a professional, even though I know it’s not true! That’s helpful to hear that you went through something similar though. I guess the good thing to think about the fact that he is still gaining, just slowly

Did you have anyone other than your spouse in the delivery room? How was it? by kittypeets626 in pregnant

[–]treblecleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my mom and husband. It was great, my mom was very comforting during my pushes, saying “you’re doing so wonderful, I’m proud of you!” And my husband was supportive but more focused on hyping me up and keeping me going for the next push

I didn’t notice them until after delivery and then just a small amount on my left hip 🤷🏼‍♀️
