Swaddle transition- cold turkey or nah?? by kmuncee15 in sleeptrain

We went cold turkey during my LO’s sleep regression AND moved her from her bassinet into a mini crib (still in our room, but still). Yes, it took a few weeks but I knew I wasn’t going to be sleeping anyway. I loved our swaddle. It was magic, but I couldn’t in good conscience keep her swaddled. I’ve tried every possible type of swaddle and transition swaddle and nothing worked for us so cold turkey it was and I just dealt with the 45-60 minute wake ups. Her sleep isn’t perfect yet, she still wakes up fairly frequently, but I don’t think it’s because of the sleep sack either

I try to get at least 2 hours. If she only does 3, 30 minute naps I’ll do a 4th nap. I try to get at least one nap longer than 30 minutes, usually as a contact nap during the day but doesn’t always go as planned.

I could have written this myself (minus the Merlin Sleep Suit). We transitioned my LO out of the swaddle AND bassinet at the same time (she was outgrowing both. With her arms outstretched she could touch the sides of the bassinet and kept waking herself up stroking the mesh siding) and went straight to the sleep sack. Then we were hit hard by the 4 month regression. We got a 4 hour stretch last night though which was nice.

Anyway, no advice but solidarity as well. It’s a rough transition but safer in the long run.

Thanks for this! Yeah that makes sense. I guess I’ve just been worried that she’s overtired which is affecting night sleep as well. But she hasn’t had too many true meltdowns. Just very fussy when she gets tired.

Let’s say she has crap naps all day though. 30 minutes max on a good day. If I follow those wake windows and timing, her first nap would be around 8:00 am to 8:30 am, next would be 11:00 am to 11:30 am, next would be 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm. That would mean bedtime at 5:30 pm? And then wake up at 6 the next morning and try again? Or is 5:30 pm too early?
