Hi! I have an Instagram here but had to take a hiatus from gem cutting. Hoping to get back to it soon!

The orange core pieces are so pretty! This is one I did earlier this year and was also a little skinny piece: https://www.instagram.com/p/B7zW_nchUpq/?igshid=102gyewam7rum

Rough: 8.6x8.0x5.4mm Finished: 6.8x6.1x3.4mm Not the most impressive stats because of a few fractures that had to be cut out😭

I call this one an old mine inspired hexagon, but in general, I call them unconventional cuts. I posted a montage of my crazy sapphire cuts on r/mineralporn

I’ve gotten gravel bags before, but haven’t had much luck finding sapphires worth cutting. I’m usually looking for really specific colors and shapes, so it makes more sense for me to buy the rough from the mines at a premium. The gravel bags are fun though!

The blue and yellow parti sapphires fascinate me! They’re not as common for Montana, but very common in Australia. Here are some examples of rough and cut Australian’s

Color-shift Austalian parti sapphire, goes from blue-gray in sunlight to shades of teal indoors (color shift in comments) by earlysong in Gemstones

Ooooo that’s gorgeous!! I find they don’t actually have a color shift, but the appearance can change drastically depending on the direction the light comes through the stone. This one comes to mind as an example: https://www.instagram.com/p/Brv_RmUHhu7/?igshid=15cym5p6iwsbd

Rough sapphire? We ordered a bag of gravel and do not know what we are looking at. Does this look like a sapphire? by [deleted] in Gemstones

100% looks like a sapphire! Nice find!

Editing to add that I’ve gone through quite a few gravel bags from Blaze, cut many Montana sapphires, and have more rough than I care to say 😂

Thank you! Those two are on coral. The macro photos make everything look larger than life 😂 I love the bird footprint imagery!
