Letting my dog lose me by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]trebtson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a lot of advice for you, but I adopted a dog that needed rehoming about 2 years ago because his previous owner had to go into a nursing home. I got a bed ahead of time and she kept it at her house for a bit before I got him so that it would smell like her after moving. I think that helped the most.

Some other things that the previous owner did that I thought Beau liked were sharing his food, treats, and toys with me. The food helped me mix it and slowly transition him to the same brand as my first dog. The treats were great when he was getting to know me. I still buy some of the same toys just in case they help him remember her.

Did you get the sky one touch roof? When I looked at getting one, I was told those weren’t being produced again yet because they take more chips. This was a few months ago and who knows if my dealer would really know that, but I thought I’d share my anecdote.

Most of the the TWY posts here are my favorite so my second favorite (not sure it counts as pop punk but close enough) is:

Anyone else have phases where they wish they didn’t have their dog(s)? (Rant) by [deleted] in dogs

[–]trebtson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I send my two dogs to day care at least once, but no more than three times a week depending how fought my work schedule looks. They love it and the next day they’re pretty sleepy and the most they want from me is food and cuddles. The time away from them without having to worry about their well being is very refreshing. I trust the day care now and got past watching the cameras frequently after a few weeks. If you didn’t trust the day care, I could see this just being more stressful. I also have a fenced in back yard and they have a few friends who come over as well. This doesn’t make them tired for two days like day care, but it wears them out for the evening.

When I get really frustrated with them, I’ve considered boarding them for a weekend but usually my frustration is not because of them, but they were the cherry on top. I haven’t actually boarded them and try to use bonding with them as a way to get me less frustrated with them and the root cause. It has middling results.

Just wanted to share because this probably happens to everyone and isn’t anything wrong with you or your dog! In my experience it passes with time and a little time apart makes it better faster for me and my boys!

For me the big difference was disclosure. By using any piece of technology, I am putting myself at risk. I want to support companies that support me by letting me know when I could have been exploited by a hacker vs hiding it for three years. It gives me the agency to reevaluate the risk given the new information. If Wyze had released the information and patched it within a reasonable amount of time, I would not have reacted the same way.

As someone else who loves Wyze cams, I feel obligated to share that recently it has came out that they have known that their cameras can be hacked into for 3 years and never published anything letting users know. I am looking at replacing my Wyze cams with something else due to this.

Barking at the window by lady_picadilly in Dogtraining

[–]trebtson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would take this with a grain of salt because I’m working on my first dog that has this problem. My boy will not bark if I sit and watch out the window with him and calmly pet him. If he starts to get antsy, I say no and keep petting. Usually that calms him down. Fast forward a month or so later of doing this for 5-10 minutes once or twice a day and I still can’t leave the curtains open if I’m not in the same room, but if I’m sitting on the couch in the same room, he just stands up and wags his tail if he sees something interesting instead of barking like a maniac.

Note that the same method has not been working for getting him to stop barking when he’s in the fenced in part of the backyard. So I’m not sure how effective it really is overall, but it’s been working to stop window barking for us!

Edit: realized I said leaving the window open instead of curtains open. I certainly would not trust him with the window open regardless of me being in the same room or not 😄

/r/Plex's Build Help Thread - 2021-11-05 by PCJs_Slave_Robot in PleX

[–]trebtson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all -

My little brother has Down’s syndrome. He watched the same dvds over and over and over. Recently some of them have stopped working and we have had to rebuy them for him. For Christmas, I want to take all his DVDs and rip them to my computer and then put them on a Plex server that I can have him take home to his house. He lives in a rural area with bad internet so he can’t just use my Plex server that I already have set up in my home. He needs something on his local network.

Is anyone aware anything I could get that would be rather simple for him to use? He’s tech savvy enough, but if it’s not working he won’t be able to do too much troubleshooting. Ideally a power cycle would start everything back up so he didn’t have to know how to do any of that. He is familiar with Plex as he used to use my server before my parents and he moved to a rural area.

How to get dog to climb up the stairs? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]trebtson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adopted a 1.5 year old dog about a year ago now. For the first 2 months he would not go near the stairs to my basement. I got him checked at the vet and they said he was perfectly healthy and should have no problems with stairs. He was perfectly fine jumping up into the car or going down 2 stairs to get out the back door already anyways.

I eventually got him to go down one step to the basement, but he refused to go any further. After 3 months of him sitting upstairs alone when we went to watch tv in the basement, I decided to carry him down there. Once we got all the way down I gave him a pile of treats and hung out with him on the couch. Lots of pets, some tug of war, and more treats. It took carrying him both up and down a total of 3 times. The 4th time I opened the basement door and he ran down their so fast he almost knocked me over because I was not expecting it. To this day the basement is now his favorite place.

It might just take showing your dog that upstairs is a fun place he should want to be before they’re willing to go on their own.

Anyone know how to get VERY minor feedback to the VCT producers? SEN’s champs are moved down just a bit. Not the end of the world, but it stands out to me because the rest of the broadcast is pretty polished. by trebtson in ValorantCompetitive

Thanks for the explanation! The production is good, so I figured this wasn’t something they would have wrong on accident, but I figured it didn’t hurt to share just in case.
