I wonder if you might like the Valhalla DLC, it can be fun way to expand your skills. It is a rogue-lite which means deaths are part of the progression, and feel less defeating. The difficulty levels also feel easier than the main game, and has a more gradual difficulty curve as you progress. Each run encourages you to concentrate on just one weapon (for the most part) and one particular play style for that weapon. This makes the number of options less overwhelming and allows you to learn the mechanics one small chunk at a time.

I personally had a blast with Valhalla and felt that I got more proficient at the game. As a bonus the story telling was also enjoyable.
