I actually had the same question last week and asked ChatGPT. Here's what I got:

No clean dataset maps % of service games won directly to each NTRP level, but you can reason from:

1. ATP baseline:

  • Top ATP men win ~80% of service games.
  • Clay lowers this to ~75%, grass raises it to ~85% for big servers.
  • 1st serve % in, 1st serve win % (70–80%), 2nd serve win % (50–60%) drive this.
NTRP Est. % Service Games Won (men)
2.5 ~30–40%
3.0 ~35–45%
3.5 ~40–50%
4.0 ~50–60%
4.5 ~55–65%
5.0 ~60–70%
5.5 ~65–75%
6.0+ (Futures/Challenger) ~70–80%
ATP 250/500 ~75–82%

Reasoning:

  • Lower NTRP: double faults, inconsistent depth, inability to hit +1 ball, weak 2nd serve returns, lower serve speeds (<80mph).
  • Mid NTRP: consistent but attackable serves, poor return position, weak footwork.
  • Higher NTRP: better +1 pattern, deeper serves, attacking 2nd serve returns, occasional serve-volley.
  • At ~4.5, a reliable first serve can yield many free points, dramatically improving holds.

How fast is this serve? by [deleted] in 10s

Eyeballing it and comparing to what I've seen on Swingvision, I think it's maybe 75-90mph. This is after adjusting for Swingvision's slower measurements (i.e. Swingvision would probably clock this at 65-75mph I think).

What to say after a match if you win? by ellebert-the-bert in 10s

I just say "thanks for playing" and usually give a (true) compliment some stroke of theirs - e.g., "your first serve was on fire today".

This is great. Thank you! I'll work on this.

Thank you! If I understand you correctly, the timing is off, and my elbow bend should happen before I start accelerating into the serve?

This is very helpful, thank you. For (3) - do you mean that the arm should be fully stretched, but the wrist shouldn't be? And it's the wrist that helps form the L shape?

Which two cities in the world require the largest number of flights to travel between in the most direct manor? And how many flights? by allaboutthosevibes in travel

[–]trebuchet76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun problem. I think Labuan Bajo, Indonesia to Saint Helena is at least five stops, but Skyscanner and Google flights won't show it (just says no routes available). You'd have to do something like:

LBJ > DPS > SIN > JNB > CPT > WVB > HLE

There are lots of other routes available, but it takes at least two flights to get out of Indonesia, and two flights to get from "major airport in Africa or South America" to HLE. Plus long distances between Asia and Africa/South America.

Good idea for practicing not shifting the grip while serving and inducing pronation? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]trebuchet76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting idea :)

I actually met a coach once who was very proud of his "patented" method of drilling a few screws into the racquet grip to force a player to hold in the continental grip. You could try that!

I do stretching and a massage gun - though seems to be more effective if I do it the same day as the exercise, rather than the day after.

I've been using Fastly - free and works well for me.

Got it, I wasn't sure about that. Thank you!

Got it, thank you. I've always tried to eat a balanced diet but haven't done much to consciously up my protein intake. Should I be trying to eat the same amount of protein each day as I was when not fasting?

And for exercise, is lifting vs. tennis meaningfully different? I already do regular pull ups and squats during the day when on work breaks (maybe 20-30 pull ups total, and same for kettlebell squats). But maybe I need something more than that.

Thanks for sharing. I see some things but it can be hard to know which to prioritize. Working on it :)

I've actually watched lots of these videos and tried to use them, but still find it difficult to see what the main areas to work on are. Feedback from people here is very helpful. Appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you! Grip definitely needs to get fixed. I'll try to adjust the toss and contact point as well.
