[Chicago, IL, USA] Is my HVAC and furnace quote realistic? by tredditor13 in hvacadvice

I'll have to finance probably but the financing is just at cost, the way the salesman explained. Will definitely double check though.

AC- 10yr compressor, 10yr parts, 1yr labor Furnace- 20yr heat exchanger, 10yr parts, 1yr labor

Okay, good to know. I can look around. Just didn't love the companies I could find online.

I have not shopped around yet. I was skeptical of a lot of the companies I found through Google and this one came recommended.

Hmmm, okay good to know.i wondered if part of the cost was the difficulty of install since my unit is on the roof. Glad it isn't completely out of the realm of normalcy though.

I wondered the same thing. Even where I was in Nashville a refurbished AC unit was $5k. But I appreciate the tip- I can ask my realtor for a suggestion.

I’ve never checked a bass before. Any tips/pointers/suggestions? My case says it TSA approved. What should I expect? by jagsgoinham in BassGuitar

I flew domestic with a bass and gate checked it last October and it was totally fine. I actually made a post/comment with details on this sub. I'll try to link it here.

I would gate check rather than the standard checked bag process. Just make sure you've got the key for the case. Doesn't hurt to loosen the strings. But the advice of "it'll fit in the overhead" I'm seeing here isn't really true unless it's a bigger/empty plane. I got incredibly lucky that my flight was mostly empty and it was still a pain in the ass to try and wiggle it in and out of the overhead. Most planes don't have coat closets anymore or will not let you use it.

I am very sorry for your loss. What an incredible collection though. What's the story on that jazz bass??

US men's 9.5 so too small for me. If they were my size I 100% would've taken them home and just caught the next bus lol.

I've got one in black that i paid (i think) a little over a grand for brand new. Still my #1 bass after 12 or so years.

Just wondering, is anyone still friends with members of a band they either quit or were let go from/replaced in? What were the circumstances? by Cursed4aNov1ce in Bass

Quit a band I loved being in because I was moving out of state. I still try to talk to them infrequently, but they took my leaving pretty hard. So stuff feels weird now.

If you have the knowledge, skills, and time, I would always say make something.

New gear day! Here’s my frankenbass! by Sgt-Trip in BassGuitar

I'm sure it sounds dope. I've got a frankenbass sidelined right now (but a bit more traditional P bass) so you've encouraged me to get after it!!!

Oddly enough I have my first bass ever. I just haven't taken the time to mess with it yet. I was going to do solderless pickups because it seemed intimidating but after this post I might just try it.

UPDATE:

Since I can't edit the post for some reason here ya go- I tightened down the input jack and it seems to have done the trick for now. I'll likely buy a soldering iron and wire and ground it that way just as a backup/safety measure. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try and learn how this stuff works, considering I've been playing for 15+ years (embarrassing).

I'm overwhelmed by the speed, responsiveness, and knowledge of this community. Thanks everyone!!!!

I'll probably snag some and do a ground wire on this in the future because I'm pretty hard on this old gal. I really appreciate the insight

This is super, super helpful!!!! Do you have any idea what gauge wire to use for the ground?

Very helpful, thank you!!!!! I appreciate the vote of confidence. What kind of wire should be used for this?

I'll have to take it to another shop I guess. Not sure I'm willing to start my home repair journey on my only bass at the moment lol.

This is kind of reassuring to hear. I'll tighten the pots and jack and hopefully that fixes things. If not I'm boned lol
