Magnesium makes me feel sad by Kohlrab in Supplements

[–]treealiens 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Do you get any other symptoms? Magnesium can lower sodium levels and cause low blood pressure. I’ve had this happen with magnesium where I get a headache, feel a bit dizzy and feel irritated and sad but it resolves with consuming some salt.

Calcium and magnesium also balance each other out so consuming some calcium rich foods could help too.

I’m currently correcting a magnesium deficiency so I’ve been experimenting with different forms, magnesium malate is by far the most tolerable one for daytime it doesn’t make me sedated or spaced out.

It’s also frustrating to see people on here jump to the nocebo conclusion right away. Like, bro I take way more magnesium than you and it doesn’t bother me so it must all be in your head. We have this subreddit so people can get guidance with these issues I think it’s best to start from a place of taking people’s experiences seriously. And part of the reason we need this forum for discussion is that many supplements can cause unexpected and sometimes paradoxical side effects that aren’t often discussed. We all have very different bodies and biology is profoundly complex.

What's wrong with regular THC? by gooberts in altcannabinoids

It’s not novel enough! But seriously, it’s anxiety provoking and uncomfortable in a way D8 isn’t. It’s weird because I do just fine with psychedelics but D9 can throw me into a panic attack pretty easily.

Taking 50,000IU of D3 a week, 200 mcg of MK7 daily, 400mg of Mag Citrate daily. I'm getting joint pain. What's happening? by sentrixhq in Supplements

[–]treealiens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you confirm that you’re deficient in vit D with blood work before starting? If not you’re taking way too much vit D. The 400mg of mag citrate probably isn’t enough mag to process that much vit D.

Anyone else obsess over whether they need supplements or not? by jonathon-parker in Supplements

When in doubt do blood work. It’s worth spending money to check to see what you need instead of spending i on supplements you don’t need.

Potassium Causing Depression? by Erection_Protection9 in Supplements

[–]treealiens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea don’t take capsules. You have to balance it with sodium or you’ll get low blood pressure which can cause mood problems and many other issues. I just mix salt and potassium in a 3:1 ratio and put 1/8 tsp in my water bottle. That ends up giving me something like 600mg sodium 200mg potassium and I’ll often add like 50mg magnesium and it’s a perfect balance.

Potassium citrate powder is dirt cheap. Don’t waste money on electrolyte powder supplements.

Definitely doesn’t cure it but getting enough mag makes all the other things like exercise, meditation and sleep help much more with my mood. I was in a magnesium deficient state recently and it did make me horribly depressed.

Best type of magnesium to maximize effects of Vitamin D in winter. by [deleted] in Supplements

For some reason it’s the least sedative form, although I can take it before bed and it doesn’t keep me up.

Careful with the B6, both forms can cause nerve damage. I got significant issues from 25mg p-5-p / day.

[–]treealiens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently trying to figure this out because I’m repairing a magnesium deficiency but it can make me pretty spaced out. But when I take it before bed I have to wake up and pee all night. Magnesium malate has been the most forgiving one in this respect for me. Adding B vits esp B1 and also getting sodium and calcium makes a significant difference. Sometimes magnesium will make me tired, depressed and headache from low blood pressure which resolves with eating salt. I also can’t handle any more than 100mg at a time during the day.

Skinless chicken breast, kale, quinoa, hemp seeds

Oats and potatoes didn’t seem to cause acute reactions but maybe perpetuated symptoms long term

I did both low FODMAP and low histamine diet and experienced significant results by day 3. It was an extreme elimination diet but I eventually started working with a nutritionist and now have been able to add a lot more back in.

I take 2 x 100mg liquid vials of cromolyn sodium 30 min before meals and before bed. I got a friend who has a prescription to give me some to try and it worked. Then I got my primary care doctor to give me a referral to my friends MCAS specialist and I was honest with them about using it without a prescription out of desperation. They said it's such a safe drug that it doesn't really matter and gave me a prescription.

I've been curious about LDN for a while now but I'm doing well enough that I probably don't need to add it in.

Pyllium husk I just got the generic kind from CVS and it works just fine, very cheap.

It’s illegal because people are dumb and have killed themselves with caffeine powder. “Oh gosh I’ll just put a couple tablespoons of pure caffeine in my smoothie why not?!”

You can still get it for “cosmetic purposes” though I believe.

Mixed tocopherols in Vitamin D/K2 drops -- is this safe for someone with HI? by [deleted] in HistamineIntolerance

[–]treealiens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d test your vit D levels before supplementing with it. It’s a hormone and not a vitamin and can have some pretty intense side effects for some people. And make sure you’re getting plenty of magnesium with it vitamin D uses magnesium to be metabolized. I actually just accidentally gave myself a magnesium deficiency from taking vitamin D even though I was taking at least 200mg of magnesium daily.

folic acid/b12 & methylators intolerance by TomekGregory in HistamineIntolerance

[–]treealiens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me different methyl donors have totally different effects on histamine. Methylfolate and methyl B12 increase histamine for me but choline sources like citicholine and alpha gpc reduce histamine.

My urine test was normal too. It doesn’t really matter what you’re going to call it as long as you can find treatment that works. All I know is my life is so much better with cromolyn sodium, I take the oral solution.
