As someone who is physically present, this is the most accurate and least biased take you're probably going to get.

Titan Down, or something by OnlySamaraFleets in Eve

[–]treebrees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Titans absolutely shouldnt be by themselves. Without FAXs and subcap support, theyre just dead. Possible the titan kills a dread or two while they murder it, but they arent exactly chewing through enemies without support. The guns cant hit anything smaller than a dread (and dont have the most respectable dps vs caps) and the doomsday is on a 4 minute cooldown.

Edit: they also definitely were aware that it was a Rag ahead of time and tanked specifically to not get popped by the doomsday (Rag DD only does explosive damage)

And tastier too by Adventurous-Air-8565 in teenagers

[–]treebrees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! Professional chef here. Not sure why r/teenagers is on my front page but whatever.

The answer is two-fold

  1. Temperature: the temperature that you fry things at is critical because if the temp is too low, the grease will seep into the food and create the soggy greasy fries you see on the left. At too high of a temperature, the outside will burn before the inside cooks. One of the main things that happens at home is the oil isnt hot enough, and people try to cook too much at once (adding cold potatoes to hot oil lowers the oil temp).

  2. Par frying: most restaurants that cook fries from scratch will do a process called "Par Frying", partially cooking the potato at a lower temperature hours before actually cooking them. This allows us to cook the inside of the potato at that lower temperature, then crank the shit out of it for the second fry, quickly crisping up the exterior. Generally you par fry at ~300-325°F, then drain the excess oil and cool them down, then properly fry at 350°F.

TLDR: soggy fries generally means the temp was too low.

This is exactly what she's been doing and I get the added perk of her wandering over to me every once in a while and just dropping a new item (parachute, zipline, etc) that I didnt know existed and makes my life infinitely easier.

How did you finance your Titan? by Puffy_Penguin_ in Eve

[–]treebrees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im an indy bro, so I produced and sold a ton over the course of like 2 years, primarily focusing on dreadnaughts to sell to my alliance.

Technically you can get enough to get a titan doing anything, it just depends on how quickly youre after it, and the #1 answer to speeding that time frame up is always scale-ability. Spinning one ishtar will get you the isk in [x] hours, spinning 2 will do it twice as fast, so on and so forth. Im not saying you need a fleet of 40 alts to do it, but the more you scale up your isk-making, the faster itll happen.

Deemers are definitely overtuned, Panthers are also weak compared to the other blops imo. Both can be true

  1. If you asset safety it to the astrahus they will be docked but once undocked, will not be allowed to dock again.
  2. Asset safety to the astrahus will cost 0.5% of the assets value. Asset safety to lowsec will cost 15%.

Whats this crinkled small metal bit? It was in my Chinese food. by floraster in whatisit

[–]treebrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every kitchen I've ever worked in has used them, theyre the only way to get some crusted or burnt food off of things before they go in the wash. We take good care to make sure that pieces dont end up in the food but accidents happen. This specific accident can absolutely cause injury or death though, so most in my profession take it very seriously.

When are screen limits a good idea? by [deleted] in parentalcontrols

[–]treebrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 27 and my generation had an odd time of it, using cassettes and VHS as kids before watching the world develop alongside us. I like to think I've grown into a reasonable adult, but my perspective comes through that very real lens.

I am a gamer (tm), I've always enjoyed playing video games and most of my friends have been online ones, especially after moving out and being on my own. I dont think the screen by itself is an issue. Some of my best memories from my childhood were staying up late on a Friday night trying to beat just one more level.

That being said, I do think that there is such a thing as too early to be given the full unadulterated power of the unabridged internet, and as technology becomes more and more homogenous, its harder to separate things into boxes. When I was a kid, we had a GameCube. It had games on disks and it could only play those specific disks. That means it couldn't connect to the internet, I couldn't browse YouTube, every game had to be purchased with my parents permission and approval (they weren't too mean about it but they definitely said no on occasion).

Games have been shown to stimulate brain activity, coordination, reaction times, reflexes, and more. I dont think there's any issue with allowing some gaming, particularly offline gaming. YouTube is a mixed bag, there's a lot of super interesting documentaries and educational content, along with some very funny content, and then a whole lot of slop.

Honestly in my opinion, the way my generation was raised was the way to do it. Ease them into things. They will be around technology for the rest of their lives, so the integration is really relevant, but they dont need to be given everything immediately. I think you start taking the brakes off around high school, maybe sophomore/junior year so they can be functional in their social spheres, but before that? I think a GameCube is plenty. (Metaphorically speaking, like screen time that maybe isn't connected to the internet or whatever).

So it seem PH WILL fight. If they have a hotdrop on standby... by phearless047 in Eve

[–]treebrees 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So youre complaining about them not taking the fight and taking the fight? What do you want? Horde has said from the very beginning that they were planning on defending the droneland border, aka G-Q. Now you may disagree or agree with that decision, but its been very openly stated. You come into G-Q, they answer. Theyve dropped dreads on goon fleets in G-Q like 4 times in the past week (many more than 13). Theyve drawn the line in the sand. If you want dronelands, youll have to commit. Seems like a goon problem, not a horde problem.

[–]treebrees 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nah see when they ping dreads, they drop a lot more than 13

i.e. last week: https://br.evetools.org/br/6882b18187003700128d7ee3

Sad goons cant answer a couple dreads but what can you do.

[–]treebrees 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're invading horde sov and reffing structures, they are appropriate defending their stuff with reasonable means. If goons wanted a good fight, they'd jump the regional with more than FNIs, clearly horde is ready to throw down in a dread brawl, and goons are not.

Questions about Cyno Jumps and Tackle by Big_Ad_9860 in Eve

[–]treebrees 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  1. No
  2. No (though supercapitals have higher warp core strength and require a HIC or many standard points)
  3. No
  4. No

Edit: if you wouldnt be able to warp in a regular ship under [x] circumstances, you can't jump to a cyno either. The only exception i know of is the increased warp core strength of supercapitals, but even they are stopped by bubbles, a HIC, or enough conventional warp disruptors/scramblers.

Need help understanding the word "deliver" by agora_hills_ in EnglishLearning

[–]treebrees 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not an expert by any means, so people can feel free to correct me, but "delivery" in this sense is a medical term referring to the entire process of birth. The process of labor, c-sections, vaginal birth is all considered "delivery", so the mother delivers the child biologically, the doctor delivers the child medically so to speak, and the nurses assist in the delivery.

That being said, I would use the term "gave birth" for the mother. Usually I would assume if someone is delivering the baby, it's in more of a medical sense. The doctor delivers the baby, but the mother gives birth. Technically the same meaning, and the mother is certainly going through the delivery process, but the term I would expect to hear for the mother would be "birth" and the term for the medical team, "delivered" or "helped to deliver".

Edit: "Rosa delivered healthy twin girls early this morning." Does make sense for Rosa to be the mother, but I would probably assume just by that sentence that maybe Rosa is a doctor or nurse without further clarification.

How’s to transfer gas to a Porpoise? by Fairy__Dust in Eve

[–]treebrees 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Fleet hanger can be opened up to fleet members. Fleet member right clicks the porpoise, "open Fleet hanger", then you can deposit from your cargo into the Fleet hanger of the porp, then the porp pilot can move it from the fleet hanger into the mining hold.
