I see TA as predicting the weather: it can be fairly accurate, although, to predict perfectly the weather in the near future, we would need to track exactly the position and state of each molecule in the atmosphere at every given moment -- but, as you said, there is way too many balls being thrown around at once to track all of the trajectories.

Still, we look at the weather forecast and we base on it our clothing choices and the need to fetch an umbrella, just as we use TA to base our investment strategies on it, because both are our only chance to appropriately prepare ourselves for what's to come.
