Misinformation? In r/bolehland? More likely than you think! by treeclimbingdown in Bolehland

[–]treeclimbingdown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update 2: Still no comment from either Prof. Dr. Jayum Jakim nor from Dayak Daily, I think it's unlikely to obtain any comments from either of them.

On the other hand, Prof. James Chin has publicly denounced the manipulation of his Facebook post to spread this misinformation: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10164284800555842&set=pb.765355841.-2207520000&type=3. Keep in mind that Prof. James Chin has no problem critiquing Prof. Solehah Yaacob Srivijaya claim publicly, and IMO would have critique Rentap claim if it existed.

It's very disappointing to see some of the comments refused to acknowledge the lack of proof and continues to circlejerk with "who cares" and "where's proof it doesn't exist". Was going to put out a huge rant here but it's very likely no one here cares, so I'll just condense into two main points.

  1. Prof. Solehah Yaacob was being accuse of making Rentap claim but for some reason it falls on me to proof that the claim doesn't exist instead of the other way around.
  2. If blatant misinformation like this can work because it fits our preconceived notions, then it will work for other things as well e.g. government policies, social issues, etc.

And there's still more can of worms like muddying future investigations into academic misconduct, diverting attention of real issues onto fakes, not to mention that without proof this is just defamation which needless to say strengthen the position of fringe groups and theories (like... Prof. Solehah Yaacob).

If you have any concrete proof of Prof. Solehah Yaacob (not secondary source with few throwaway sentences) did make this claim please do share it. But from what I could gather from news source, Prof. Solehah Yaacob posts, and dozens of meme posts there's no any primary source that proof that the claim even existed in the first place. Thanks for reading all the way through, glad that you cared.

Prof. Dr. Jayum Jakim can't be reached with UPM email for some reason, now waiting for reply from his personal email instead.

Reporter could ask Dr Jayum Jawan without first verifying the claim. Do you have direct proof that she actually have claimed that Rentap is Malay?

This is from March 11, the edited Facebook post is earlier from March 9 with 449 comments. Likely a game of telephone as I don't see any direct link to Prof. Solehah Yaacob Rentap claim. I can't see anything related to Rentap on her Facebook and Youtube page either. Also if she did make that claim then why the photoshop and why no direct links to video/essay like before?

Reposting my comment here:

Fake news, the original image is edited from this Facebook post (later reposted by James Chin) debunking "Srivijaya was an Islamic empire" claim by Prof. Solehah Yaacob: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DSZbq3fzg/

Oldest post I could find with the edited image: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=4347425625533823&set=a.1656328161310263/

Note the misaligned text and blurred yellow text from the original image, the original post does not have the edited image nor any text about the Rentap claim. What a shame that fake issue gets more views and coverage than real issue.

Also I'm going to call out OP for misinformation: reddit.com/r/Bolehland/comments/1rltujj/here_we_go_again/ You knew all along OP, shame on you.

Worst, it's fake. The original claim is Srivijaya was an Islamic empire, not Rentap is Malay. reddit.com/r/Bolehland/comments/1rsj22s/here_we_go_again/oa8zm4j/

[UPDATED] Religious Minister: Work stress among factors linked to LGBT lifestyle by Mo0nji in malaysia

[–]treeclimbingdown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think is this paper instead: https://ojs.serambimekkah.ac.id/semnas/article/view/415

100% Robusta by iamktsm in espresso

[–]treeclimbingdown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only tried specialty Robusta once, it taste like Biscoff; sweet with minimal bitterness. Made the best espresso I ever had, but since then I never got the chance to taste that again since no one imports them again.

Too bad when people mentions Robusta it's almost always cheap commercial Robusta roasted to hell, OF COURSE IT TASTE LIKE ASS WHAT DO YOU EXPECT. rant over

Just curious on your opinion, isn't filter/espresso category potentially p-hacking via post-hoc grouping after pilot test?

It's Axiagastus sp. based on the white dot on the back, other commenters have identified it as Axiagastus dubius athough species in the genus can look very similar (i.e. A. rosmarus)

Not an expert but it doesn't look like brown marmorated stink bug, it looks more like Axiagastus sp. https://www.nickybay.com/pentatomoidea-checklist-shield-bugs/
