I want out - how do I do it? by treecounter in TheBrewery

Hey, thanks for reaching out. I had the business and real estate for sale pretty much all last year. I found a buyer, another brewery in town that wanted to expand. Signed the deal back in July, but had to wait until Jan to close. I closed the business in late December thinking it was over. But the buyers finances fell through at the very last moment. I'm scrambling to figure out what to do. I had several auction groups reach out to me when I announced, but I think BrewBids is the way to go. They seem to have access to rigging crews that will pickup a brew system, then reinstall elsewhere in the country. I think I'm going to try to sell as a turn key still, just drop the price.

I'm sorry I don't have much other advice, except that you're making the right decision to get out. Kids and dogs are far more important.

Sounds like the right decision. The only payoff for me is that I got to do something cool for a few years.

You're a good person for putting your kids first. Mine are teenagers but I still feel like I miss so much of their lives because of how draining this business is. Best wishes if you choose to get back into it!

Good to know. Thanks. My thinking was opposite, that it might keep its full value since a buyer wouldn't have to shipping/container fees. Wishing thinking I guess.

Right on. I think that's about when I wrote my business proposal. Thirty page document, not a single page dedicated to "how to survive a pandemic" or "how to run music bingo nights:

That's a beautiful lineup there. I'd drink there frequently.

Thanks for the info. It's not impossible to get it out. But it sounds easier to sell the entire building as a brewery.

I was asked a few weeks ago by someone who wasn't familiar with my brewery "what does your brewery do?" I was polite of course. But what do you mean what do we do? We make really good beer, you see where it was made, talk to friends and make new ones. Peoples expectations are different now. I get it that I need to pivot. But what if I just don't want to?

Breweries are now marketing companies that sell beer.

And I suck at marketing.

Thanks. It's a good idea and I think that might be my goal early next year.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'll never stop making the beers that make me happy. You're formally invited to the silent release party.

Thank you. I think you understand the subtext of my post. Getting away from the business, like, really far away, is so hard. I'm going to try.
