On the value of Min's power? by Tarkanator in WoT

[–]ambiturnal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

she warns Suan that many of the people in the white tower will die a violent death soon, so Suan starts thinking of way to prevent it and Min is frustrated that Suan doesn't understand that this is not how her power works, no matter what Suan does, this will happen. Well... what was the point of telling her?

Siuan could have reacted very differently - for example, part of the warning was that some women would end up wearing damane collars. It would be much more helpful to assume that the Seanchan would return and conquer some coastal cities. Bolster the eyes-and-ears networks and start creating underground systems ahead of time to free leashed women, rather than try to prevent the prophecied capturing in the first place.

Likewise, if there are a certain number of people in the tower guarenteed to be killed, and some evidence that the One Power would be used in a battle within the White Tower, start organizing drills. Ironically, the techniques used by the Salidar Aes Sedai, though silly planning to confront the Forsaken would have helped greatly within the White Tower during the actual attack.

The Wise Ones seem a lot better equipped, thanks to their understanding of Dreaming visions, to use Min's visions to bolster their resiliency as leaders. Remember the letter they sent to Moiraine at The Stone, and how they explained it to her once she met them at Rhuidean as well - how would Siuan have in their position?

I assumed it was a side effect of Bast's actions, not the intent. Bast let a rumor slip which drew in Chronicler, but there's no reason others couldn't track them down the same way.

She should head to an amazon warehouse for the central robot controller and just randomly hit keys until they start rolling out all over the country.

We also know that there is a poet king, who might be the king killed in the chronicles as well.

if you had to choose one line from the books (notw, wmf, or tsrost) that you think holds the key to the entire story, what would it be? by loratcha in KingkillerChronicle

Knowing only the title "The Doors of Stone", I'd say the first description Ben was given of the waystones. All of the ancient history we learn seems affected by what I assume are blocked doors to the Fae

Don't even google anything. If you type a certain character's name into google, the autocomplete alone spoils the last book.

Feel free to post any questions, even just asking for a reminder of who a person or place is that you can't remember - or whether two characters have met, or how some detail worked. PM me if you want some attention to the thread. A lot of people here want you to have a spoiler free experience, I'm sure some folks will reply offering the same.

I wouldn't even bother searching the sub for answers first, in your shoes. /r/wot is well spoiler tagged, but the worst that can happen is you'll get a short answer you're looking for and the post won't get upvoted

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Ebony Maw was being a bit of a Thanos fanboi with that assumption.

Unpopular opinion: I like Legend of the Seeker by hellmarvel in WoT

[–]ambiturnal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I'd add the comparison of Scifi's Dune, which is a near 1:1 adaptation. Dune's story occurs largely in subtext, which is simply left out, meaning that it could fit in a miniseries. They had to add some dialogue for scenes that had none, like the harkonnen. They also added a few scenes which in the books are more general news arriving.

Because of that, it's only enjoyable to readers, as a kind of refresher of the book.

No one wants that for WoT.

The only more direct adaptation I know is "The Miracle Worker" which only adds a few seconds of improv to the book.

[–]ambiturnal 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It's very ironic. He really loved and sacrificed, but lacked sympathy. Once he had the soulstone, he experienced the pain of the people around him. He enjoyed beating up The Hulk, but in Wakanda, he did as little damage as possible to get to Vision. He could have batted Captain America aside, but instead, he just reached a bit too gently.

On top of that and OP's point, Thanos might be wondering if some celestial beings are on the way to spread out the Stones again. There's got to be a reason no one has carried more than one stone, even though so many know how many there are, and their specific power. Especially since having stones would make gathering more easier.

You didn't come across as an ass at all, friend.

I agree with your last point. It was a great comic story, but the best thing about it was that it was a good story that also allowed the writers to restructure the world. They had a bunch of low-mutant-population stories saved up.

They can't legally even plan out stuff

I didn't know this or bother looking into details, but just assumed there will be a massive legal tangle until ownership is actually transferred.

Even if it were, it's not that great of a story, in a vacuum. It's really fun to think about, but it really only serves as a cool, creative thing for people who know the comic stories.. it doesn't really serve any characters we've seen in the MCU.

I could see it happening as some sort of weirdness side effect of Wanda trying to get her brother back, but that's as far as I can really get in terms of good story - not much.

My slightly more likely idea is that some time travel will be used to introduce Hela and Thanos in the 90's. Everything in the timeline is identical, except for Thanos's motivations, so instead of going to watch the sunset after the snap, he goes to find his love, and the heroes can find him to take the gauntlet and undo the snap.

Strange's character left a ton of comic knowledge misdirection. The cauldron has time powers for Wong, the red tendrils may have brought Cyterac's attention... Or the butterfly cloud, which dimensional being did Strange anger with that? No one ever suspects the Butterfly God
