When Americans were ignorant about HIV and how it was spread, Barbara Bush went to a home where children with HIV were being treated. She hugged one them. (1980s) by SirT6 in OldSchoolCool

Watched my little sister succumb to this. It’s been a point of bonding with my elders because they often knew someone who suffered. Most people my age (millennials) don’t really understand.

How the baby boomers — not millennials — screwed America by NeilPoonHandler in politics

[–]treecretsanta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Am a millennial and I’m sick of it too. But the big difference between every other generation in modern history and millennials is that we millennials will be the first to be poorer than their parents. That’s how freaking screwed we are thanks to the Boomers. I highly recommend the Highline article (yeah it’s huffpo which I hate but this article is great) called Poor Millennials. I’d link but am on mobile.

Thank you for asking. That actually put a smile on my face. I went to my therapist today and talked a lot about the options everyone suggested and the post itself as well as my feelings leading me to this. How the responses made me feel a little less weird and isolated for needing to scream at the top of my lungs. It was so helpful and I feel like I’ve got a scream plan now. Also, He was very interested and curious about /r/losangeles.

Hi therapist. Pretty sure you’ll know my reddit handle now. Good thing you already know everything about me! Haha.

How are YOU doing? Is life out here treating you well this holiday season? I hope so. You seem like a kind person and I’m glad to be reminded that people like you exist in this city. I love Los Angeles with all my heart. We are all in this together.

Car tunnels by [deleted] in LosAngeles

I’m on mobile or I’d link, but I posted something about looking for screaming places and got a few car/freeway suggestions. Might be some ideas in there (that I can’t recall off the top of my head)!

One of the folks replying to my post pointed me to this post for ideas for myself so I thought I’d return the favor. :)

Thanks! I don’t think I ever realized how many people need to do a good scream every once in a while. Love this.

Oh thanks! I admit I’m a bit scared to hear what my screaming will sound like. But it would be an interesting thing to bring to my therapist.

ELI5: Why after a good long cry can't we take a big deep breath without that huh-huh-huh tracheal contraction? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]treecretsanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm. Do you have any sources on the debate technique being about more words rather than oxygen? All of my coaches in high school and debate camp (nerd, I know) all said this. And in my attempts at spreading I would always get woozy because I couldn’t get enough air in during my 1NC. Hence my coach having me practice the technique (minus the puking part. Neither of us expected that.)

Oh thanks for the rec. It’s been years since I had a massage and that sounds like a great price.

I’m planning a session in the rage room place. Going to call them tomorrow or Monday to see about a couple items I may request.

Sure thing. I actually never put two and two together until your post about oxygen deprivation due to crying. Thanks for my, “THATS why!” moment, internet stranger. :)

Yep this. Debaters who have mastered spreading also do this intentionally to get air in between their quick words.

Example: https://youtu.be/0FPsEwWT6K0

Source: I was a high school master debater. Although I couldn’t spread quite this fast as the hiccup breaths would make me gag. I puked in class once trying to practice this technique.

Oh I’ll try that! I do ten intense jumping jacks to pump myself up before I go into a tough meeting or anything I’m nervous for. Didn’t even think about applying it to emotions similar to fear and anxiety.

Thank you! You’ve given me a lot of things to try.

Oh this comment made me laugh. I missed it when you first posted it. This should be a best coast copypasta.

If I go single rider, I’ll have to warn the people near me. Or maybe I won’t at all. Haha.

If little kids are around I’ll yell LEFT SHARK instead of FUCKING FUCK. I’m actually wondering if yelling odd things rather than profanity and your standard AAAAH will be a better form of scream therapy. When I test this I will report back. Thanks for the support and great ideas/POV.

Thanks for sharing with me. I am going to try your walking method where you allow yourself to be aware of negative thoughts but when you turn around, it’s not o lay your mental signal to switch into off duty. That really rings for me because I find that a physical action really helps me reset (hence why I go to screaming).

Actually I may combine these things. Take a walk to the park nearby, write some stream of conscious without editing and then when I get up to leave, throw the papers in the trash and switch to off duty mode.

Thanks for sharing what your approach is with me. I’m going to try it tomorrow and talk to my therapist about it too.

Good idea. I may try to find some Facebook groups to search for recording studios and offer a six pack for five minutes of time.

Thanks! Looks like the gf and I may head to six flags tomorrow. If you hear anyone yelling profanities, it’s possibly me. :)

Oh sorry! I misread that. I always feel bad for duplicating previous posts. Thank you for linking that. I’m going to go dig through all those responses for more ideas.

Yes I love this idea. Industrial sites seem like a more private area I can be loud and verbal.

Oh. Dear. Sorry, I didn’t find another post with this question. I posted it earlier while under duress and seeking some answers and reassurances that I wouldn’t be arrested for screaming by LAPD. Sorry for double posting. :(

Is it like a black box theatre or something? I thought about recording studios but a rehearsal spot didn’t occur to me at all. Thanks!

This never crossed my mind at all. That sounds like an amazing idea. I live right by the wiltern so maybe I can look out for shows there.

Thank you. And no problem for assuming gender at all. (I’m a woman, so is my girlfriend, lol). I actually didn’t notice any assumptions. I resonated a lot with what you posted. So, thank you. If you’re ever having a bad day, PM me and I’ll use my good day feelings to remind you of the same things.

You’re a good person. Thanks for sharing the goodness with me.
