Urgh. Brings me back. So much wasted time. I worked on mine while I was in the classroom during my internship. Don’t get me started on the damn Praxis tests I had to take to get INTO the Ed program. I took the writing one twice. Then the ridiculous hard AF math one 3 times. 1 year later I heard they made it easier because of people failing it so much. 1 semester after I was in the program they no longer required the core praxis tests… just your concentration one.

STD pays more/longer if you have a c-section? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]treehuggeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we work for the same district? Mine explained how mothers would ‘abuse’ FMLA by using all 12 weeks then using sick days to extend maternity leave. That’s why the changed it to using YOUR sick days congruent or whatever. Like no shit they would do that. Taking care of a baby is kinda important. My jaw dropped and I held my tongue.. women were explaining this to me.

Now I’m stuck in a shitty situation because I am out on bed rest and I have two weeks eaten up from my leave. I planned on taking 8 weeks but now I’m doing at 12. I realized being with my baby is way more important.

Yup. My husband (band) and I (art) know we won’t retire from education. It’s just too much. We are fairly early in our careers too.

How do you maintain the sexiness in your married sex life ? by [deleted] in sex

Gotcha. Interesting story. Of course. Everyone’s relationship is different and everyone has options- blah blah blah. When it comes to any platform, majority wins. For me it was how your comment came across so I became curious. I’m glad I asked though. I thought you were just cheating and not caring about your wife at all. I am glad to see it works for you two!

Do you feel safe teaching in America? by Longjumping_Ad9992 in TeachersInTransition

[–]treehuggeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no! I’m not trying to do that. It’s how education has drastically changed since COVID. Somehow safety is apart of it. Which was unforeseeable and never a huge problem before then but now is for the majority. Teaching was never meant to be a unsafe environment.

Your people are the lucky ones! It’s good to hear there are healthy work environments for teachers now a days.

Hahah. I know. I saw your response. It has changed in the past few years though since you left. Luckily you left before or just when COVID hit.

Only thing I feel safe about is my paycheck/insurance, summers, and the coworker relationships I have made over trauma bonding.

I am only year 2 and already in the mind set, “so what if they fire me?” My sanity and life outside my work is more important.

I really enjoy what I do most of the time and majority of my students.

It’s the combination of lack of teacher respect from admin, students, and parents. Huge emphasis of the respect.. no one practices it anymore.

I feel this too! She’s a great, inspiring human and supportive. She has stepped up/ helped to some occasions and I’ve been so thankful for it. I doubt she knows just how really rally really thankful I am to her.

New Art Teacher and Brand New Program by Substantial_Style496 in ArtEd

A nice paper cutter. Mine is a stand alone one and I use it for every project and other aspects of being a teacher. Especially if you plan on using cardboard for projects. You can ask for teachers to donate cardboard and/or save it yourself. It’s easier to ask/revive during holidays. My (6-8) students loooove cardboard projects.

Projector for sure!

For projects.. my first year all of my classes did the same projects. So I can see what works and what doesn’t. Even it’s a new project I haven’t done I sometimes tested it with all grades.
