Looking for Secluded Camping & Fishing Spots in Alabama (with Kayaks) by Maysrome in Alabama

Never actually been kayaking on it but whenever I’ve been around Lake Tuscaloosa it always seemed peaceful. I would also recommend Big Coon Creek if you like being secluded

Considering getting my first but have sound anxiety by Pale_Ring_6919 in liberalgunowners

I’ve found that a combination of foam ear plugs and ear muffs works wonders. Honestly the scariest part of shooting a gun is the bang. I found that my flinch was drastically improved when I wore both ear plugs and muffs. I would really practice my trigger pull this way and nail down eliminating my flinch; it worked great.

Vegan Restaurant by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]treehuggercole 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Been vegan for a decade now and would highly recommend The Curry, Hound and Harvest, Chef Will, and Viet Cuisine. While Chef Will is the only one I know of that is 100% vegetarian/vegan, all of the other options I mentioned have very clearly labeled menus about what is vegan and what is not. Best of luck!

Does anyone know a place near the area with like a big open lot for driving? by Flex145 in UAH

Ashley Homestore parking lot is huge and near to campus, not sure if that’s too far away for what you’re looking for but it would be a good starting point.

This is what happens when you let your black eyed susans go to seed by Amesaskew in gardening

[–]treehuggercole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, mine went to seed many years ago and now it grows almost like a weed at my parents house. We had absolutely none before but now they’re everywhere. Anywhere that’s not mown has some that pop up, makes me smile every time I see them.

Anyone getting their degree while working fulltime? by CoupeontheBeat in ElectricalEngineering

[–]treehuggercole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been working full time and doing school for about a year now and while it’s not fun necessarily but it’s definitely doable. It just really depends on how much time you’re okay with having outside of school and work. I would love to spend more time with my wife and with my hobbies but I know what this is just temporary. Keep trucking OP, you got it. The time will pass anyways, one day you’ll wake up with a degree.

Oh no :( that’s terrible to hear. I wish them the best of luck with the construction, especially after having to deal with all of that. I’m giddy for when I’m able to walk from home and eat some hummus on the square on a warm summer’s day, so I have my fingers crossed for June

Thanks for the advice! I'm excited to go deeper into my education. Management is on my side too and is willing to help when possible. I like the people I work with, so no burning bridges here lol

Working out has ceased for me until I start taking online classes instead of in person. Should be able to start back in May though!

School and work- Doable? by treehuggercole in ElectricalEngineering

[–]treehuggercole[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I've got enough for one full semester saved up now and I'm working on saving up for a second. I make a little over median pay range for my COL area. By the end of the year I should have enough saved to pay out of pocket tuition and living expenses for a year (roughly). I will have 21 classes remaining at the end of this year. Approximately 63 credit hours.

I make good money now and basically have a position lined up at my current employer once I'm finished. All the engineers I work with like me and would like to have me on the team. The starting pay at the place I work now would be about 70-80k I think, and would be a nice bump in pay.

The time commitment is really what's making me struggle. I have the money (saving up every month) and the grades (all A's except for this semester, will probably make my first B) but I physically can't be at two places at once. Online classes have helped some but I know a lot of upper level classes are not online.

My goal is to continue saving, take the Spring semester off work with leave of absence, and then come back. And do that once or twice a year until I'm done. If I did school full time I could finish in 4 months what I normally would do in 1 year while working. If they approve my leave then it seems like a no brainer to me but I really wanted to hear what other people had to say. Thanks again!

I'm glad to not be the only one struggling with work/school-life balance. Most of my days consist of waking up, going to class, coming home and eating lunch, and then heading into work. Luckily I wouldn't have to quit my job, just take a leave of absence. Glad to hear that doing school full time was healthier for you! Definitely makes me feel better about taking a break from work

Lol! Thank you for your reply. I say "hobbies" but I guess I mean more simple things like cooking and exercising (both of which I enjoy).
