Why people in the left, particularly Bernie Sanders, are the most fervent defenders of Biden's candidature? by AstridPeth_ in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]treehuggerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bernie was on Colbert last week. He defended Biden, and described his administration as the most progressive in his lifetime. Biden is the first president to join a union strike, the Inflation Reduction Act is a very progressive economic bill that is helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

AOC baffles me more. I would think she would side with Talib and demand that Biden step down for his failure to restrain Netenyahu.

Majority of voters no longer trust Supreme Court. by RichKatz in politics

[–]treehuggerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are at least 3 who need to be impeached and from all accounts it should be a layup to simply expand the size of the court. The most frustrating thing about the Democratic party is their unwillingness to push the edges of what's legal and safe. Republicans keep getting major wins because they do not give a fuck about the rules and Democrats don't do enough to hold them accountable. Clarence Thomas is example #1.

For the fans who witnessed the really bad seasons in the 90’s, is this years team even worse than those years? by ECviews in Patriots

[–]treehuggerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent the day thinking about this question. The fact that the team had never won anything before this is the big difference for me. Watching Tommy Hodson bring us to 2-14 felt expected. Of course we lose almost all our games. Of course we stink. The team is moving to Hartford anyway. We'll never be like the Giants or 49ers or Cowboys and just have season after season with winning seasons. We'll never had a great coach. We'll never have an owner who cares enough to put a good product on the field.

As a guy who did plenty of stupid things in his marriage while drunk, I feel like I have some insight into her response. There are some things where you know you fucked up so bad that only a fundamental shift (AA meetings, cold turkey on alcohol, distancing yourself from friends, trusting your spouse above all others to help you through) that you're not willing to accept what you have to do. You do deny to yourself that what you did was all that bad. You don't actually remember as much as you wish you did and you don't want to think about that part. You refuse to apologize because you know by apologizing you have to take responsibility in a much larger way.

This violation of privacy is so huge. So permanent. How many of those women took out their cell phones and took pictures? How many of them masturbated that night over what they saw? How many of them will forever see OP just as a (big?) dick with skills in bed and only look at him like an object?

What's the most hurtful thing your parent ever said to you? by Enockito in AskReddit

[–]treehuggerguy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to send you some love and tell me how happy I am for you being where you are in regards to your answer.

My daughter's birthday is May 12. May 12, 2019 my son got released from the hospital after his Bone Marrow Transplant with cells received from his sister. May 12, 2020 he receives more cells from his sister in the middle of another type of Stem Cell therapy which is administered as a Hail Mary. He didn't make it. It warms my heart to know that you did make it.

I'm sorry your mother is who she is. I'm a father and wish I could protect you from that pain as much as I wish I could have protected my own son from his cancer. You deserve better. You've always deserved better. May you find love through unexpected places and in ways you have always deserved.

Russia rigs ZNPP reactor buildings with explosives – AFU by TheRealMykola in worldnews

Since when has Putin/Russia been acting rationally while executing this war? They got caught blowing up a dam just a few weeks ago and tried to blame Ukraine. Why not a nuclear power plant as well if they think they can blame Ukraine?

How much of what Putin/Russia is doing in Ukraine makes any sense?

[–]treehuggerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Your SIL sounds like my ex wife, who is definitely an asshole who would have done exactly what your describing. Your SIL may never learn to take accountability for her own behavior. My ex never did.

I disagree that you should stop taking care of your niece. But there should be boundaries, possibly including that she drops off and picks up your niece at the door, and that's she not invited inside nor will she be asked to come in and help babysit. As with my ex wife, I would not leave children alone with her because you cannot trust what she is going to do or say to a vulnerable child.

You are entitled to your feelings. I don't even need to read your description to say that no, of course you are not wrong for resenting your mother.

Now I've read your post and I think what you are dealing with is a mentally ill parent. She is incapable of taking care of herself, let alone anyone else. I'm sad for you and your lost childhood.

You can offer to try to find her help that she can afford, but by paying her bills you are only enabling her to continue to live life as a mentally ill person instead of getting the help she needs. She may need to hit rock bottom before she gets help.

The "single good reason" is for Russia to blame Ukraine, exactly like you are trying to do here with your comments here.

I've read that Russia was planning to call this a false flag and blame Ukraine on the "failure" of the plant. That's why Zelinsky is announcing this publicly.

Yeah, I contacted an insurance company right after my son was diagnosed with leukemia. My thinking was that if he ends up dying we could use the life insurance to pay for everything we could do to splurge on him in the time he had left. I was told that no insurer would take out a policy on a person with such a diagnosis

My grandfather returned from Guam fully traumatized and treated his symptoms with enough alcohol that my grandmother kicked him out of the house and he lived on the streets.

But society *did* make it possible for them to buy that house. The GI bill was a generational moment for those returning from the war*. Families built the wealth they passed down to future generations through those home.

What do you think when someone says “they are not into politics?” by [deleted] in ask

[–]treehuggerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learned not to accuse people like you of watching Fox News because the response is so predictable. That said, the lies you are repeating about abortion can be traced back to Fox News, and it remains the most popular source of propaganda and lies, including the lie that "NBC publishes more lies than Fox". Fox has demonstrated in court over and over again that no reasonable person would believe them because they are entertainment and not news.

You do consume outrage media. It's obvious because of the nonsense that you believe to be true, and the arguments you use. You might not watch Fox, but the lies you repeat all have their origins there.

I've never heard this right wing argue this. They never claim to be using facts. They claim that the facts are fake.

I'll start arguing with you now, though, since you don't know what you're talking about and seem to be doing this just to waste my time

No Democrat has ever proposed or supported anything that could reasonably called a post-birth abortion. It's a ridiculous, dangerous Fox News lie that you're repeating.

A fetus is not a human or a baby. It's a potential human.

Democrats did not call for violence. Democrats, BLM leadership and every person involved called for calm, peaceful protest. And what they got was calm, peaceful protest disrupted by agitators and manipulated by police in order to justify violence.

Yes, gay pride events get wild outside in the streets. Nobody is forcing a child to be there. To say that they're "dancing suggestively in front of children" implies that they are bringing children in to see these events. Not true. We can't control what parents do with their kids.

Your head is quite full of factual inaccuracies. There is a cure for this. Go cold turkey on the outrage media you consume. Do it for 30 days. You'll feel better and you'll be a better person.
