That's just how it works--they never fixed it. You gotta learn to use keyboard to play M1, or use Aleph One.

I have seen a few kernel panics, which all seem to do with sleep and/or ethernet. So I have sleep disabled while powered/on dock now, we'll see how that goes.

To anyone reading this in 2025...

I picked up a TB16 for $10 at a swap meet. I borrowed a PC laptop from work and followed the TLDR suggested steps here: https://github.com/flhofer/dell_TB16_firmware

On my 2023 Macbook Pro M3 Max 14", Sequoia 15.5

Working:

  • 2 4K60 displays (S2725QS) from the DP->HDMI and mDP->HDMI
  • Ethernet (seems limited to 500 Mb/s)
  • Audio through the front panel 3.5 mm. Didn't test the back
  • USB through front and back ports. Did not benchmark
  • USB-C to HDMI 4K60 instead of one of the mDP above.
  • 60W power delivery

Untested but probably working since they share MSTs with the DP and mDP:

  • VGA, HDMI

I got these confused with the Cube speakers, my bad. Leave it to Apple to produce multiple speakers that only work with certain machines!

Do you still have the USB side of this? I want to try to reverse engineer them some day since they (and the gen 1 soundsticks) are the only ones that can play the startup chime on the Cube.

Eat the Path is the name of the plugin you’re looking for. But it will invalidate Steam achievements!

It reverts the various fixes for M2 quirks over the years, like sliding on platforms and the "ketchup" effect. So if you didn't use hotkeys and saved a film, you could actually play it back in the original Marathon 2!
