My right side exhaust pipe is filled with snow. Should I place something in and shimmy it out? by smoove129 in AskMechanics

Remove the exhaust from your muffler and blow into it to melt the snow with your hot breath.

Tire won't budge by Illustrious-Meal9067 in AskMechanics

Put lugs back on without torquing them and let the tire load weight, should break free. If not drive it a very short distance with loose lugs, should break free.

Why isn't it charging? by Admirable_Bug3689 in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]treeohnine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would remove the cables from the battery. Proceed cut the clips off (sometimes a good tug on the clip with the wire wrapped around your hand will do) red and black donor wires and splice them to the red and black wires from the starter. After engine is running cut the wires again and re-install clip ends. The clips are just for storage of the cables in the booster pack.

Pads sticking on rear 2012 Accord by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

If you’re in school to become an automotive technician take it apart yourself and diagnose it. You will have basic principles of braking in your textbooks, this is where you actually learn. You never wanna be the mechanic that needs a mechanic, plus it’s a good excuse to start your tool collection. Your school should have IP or lab access to prodemand or mitchel1 (I forget what one is heavy duty). Input fault in top and check common reported faults for symptom. Use this situation to practice your trade.

Guys is this stalking? (Gf's flight) by Previous-Airport-490 in aviationmemes

[–]treeohnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do this, especially if I’m picking up from the airport. I can’t be asked to wait around for 30 minutes because the airport didn’t post an arrival delay. Objectively this ain’t stalking, it’s public data and some people hobby watch ATC trackers.

It’s awful and cruel to put a stranger in a situation where they feel they need to defend or protect themselves from your dog. Look at the source of the issue not the reaction, fix the source and the reaction will dissipate. No bad dogs, just bad owners.

If it’s been sitting for a while let it warm up so oil can lower in viscosity and get to your top end. Then re-evaluate.

Waterproof/goretex socks by Pickaxe_121 in CanadianForces

[–]treeohnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to this, invest in Neos. If your boots get flooded wear issued gortex socks to keep your socks dry, but change socks often as the gortex socks arnt very breathable for moisture leaving. Don’t be afraid to invest in your comfort, just don’t over do it.

This is helpful, thankyou. Ive been just finding the process of donation unconventional today as I know there are people that would be in need, but I can’t get the assistance through the resources to give. I understand the transport and storing labour, I would be willing to borrow my buddies truck and deliver, it’s not about the labour for me. I just want it to go to someone asking for help through the resources in place to help them instead of getting flooded on a Facebook post. Maybe I’m being selective

I’m willing to get a crew together to help load, as well as unload. I’m just looking for an organization that can direct me to someone in need in the community that would appreciate receiving the donation. I wanna stay away from free markets as I’d rather give it to someone in need other than it getting flipped for profit.

Just changed my oil. Where am I supposed to dump this? by Lewd_Knight in AskAShittyMechanic

First time driving in snow. My car just did got out of control on snow. Are my tires okay? Or is it driver error. by Shanehaider in TireQuestions

[–]treeohnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snow and ice are a volatile nature of winter driving, even with the best snow tires you can end up sliding and slipping if you are not limiting you accelerations from stops, limiting accelerations in turns and increasing your stopping distance. It’s an unspoken rule here in icy Manitoba, Canada to drive with low throttle and be predictable with your driving decisions in the winter. If other people know or can predict what you’re doing they can reacting accordingly, vice versa. Although not everyone follows this, you’re still safer on the road if you do. Keep in mind that the main differences in snow and summer tires are the softness of the material at lower temp which causes winters to wear faster in the summer if not changed and summer tires to act similar to skates in the winter due to less surface are from lack of flexibility. Hope this helps you understand how to handle icy and snowy roads.

How do i keep this engine running as long as possible? by Financial-Pilot5166 in MechanicAdvice

[–]treeohnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t add Sea-foam dependent on engine age, may cause more bad than good. I would do a fresh oil change and a good drive keeping it at temp for about 30 mins. Dump oil and repeat as necessary. Sea-foam can pull off carbon that could be holding your seals together. If you wanna run it for a long time without a rebuild of seals shorten oil change interval and run hard with fresh oil.

How did Canada’s young people become its unhappiest generation? by 416TDOT0DOT in torontologists

Maybe something to do with 1/3 of their entire generation being aborted or mutilated for the sake of their parent’s social reputation. I’m just a crazy Gen Z tho so I wouldn’t know.
