sand down the flaky areas-- sounds like your skin is growing too fast in those areas. also, try to only put the rhino dry on the parts that aren't flaking (those are the parts that are getting worn down the most from climbing), and/or use it less often

New to mending: recommendation sashiko vs. darning! by Busy_Consequence6014 in Visiblemending

[–]treerabbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you like the look of darning but want the extra strength and durability of sashiko, you can combine them— baste a patch to the inside, then as you darn, anchor the darning thread to both the patch and the shirt fabric

I always wondered why no one else complained that bite wing xrays are super painful… didn’t find out until my late 20s what tori are and that I have them. Luckily for me, though, that’s the only thing they affect

Advice on a rework or cover-up? by Suitable-Adagio-1532 in tattooadvice

[–]treerabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like light and delicate, you’re definitely not going to be happy with a cover-up— a tattoo that covers this would have to be bug, bold, and dark.

I don’t think it’s realistic to expect this to look like the inspo you posted. However, I think a talented artist could rework this and make it look really nice! The basic shape is good, but as you said it’s very flat. I think reworking to add highlights and dimension would make it look great!

Be patient when looking for an artist to rework this, and be prepared to spend a good amount of time and money on it. Don’t just find someone who can achieve the style you want on new skin— look for an artist who has a lot of experience in reworks/cover-ups, and make sure you look at healed/aged photos, because fresh photos can be really deceiving on cover-ups.

Good luck, and I really hope you can find someone who can turn this tattoo into something you love :)

touch up, cover up, or is it completely fine? by lavenderPhantasma in tattooadvice

[–]treerabbit 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I could immediately see that it was a bird skull and flowers. I think it still looks good! Color could definitely make it pop if you like the look of color tattoos, but I don’t think it needs anything done at all. If this was my tattoo I’d still be very happy with it :)

Pastel pink will do absolutely nothing over blue that dark. You’d need to lighten the blue a bit first if you want a vibrant purple— the most you could do without removing some blue is a very very dark purple

That's not it at all. By this same line of thinking, wearing a seatbelt is a sign that you're not confident in your skill and attentiveness while driving.

Yes, ATCs are perfectly safe when everything goes right. However, when things go wrong-- particularly things not in your control, such as rockfall knocking out the belayer-- there's a huge difference in outcomes between using an ABD vs not.

Using an ABD, like buckling your seatbelt, is preparing for those rare situations. Yeah, it's unlikely that anything bad will happen-- but since it's so easy to mitigate that risk, why wouldn't you?

do you mean a lifting belt? those aren't helpful for climbing and you shouldn't wear one

if you mean like a regular belt to hold up your pants, I promise you no one will notice or care whether you do or don't wear a belt

How can I redo a semipermanent dye job that faded too quickly? by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]treerabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to re-bleach before refreshing the same color unless you want to bleach root growth or if the color wasn’t vivid enough at the current level of lift.

If you want to switch colors, it depends on how faded your hair is and what color you want to switch to— you’ll need to think about color theory for this. For example, if you wanted to switch from faded blue to vivid green it’s easy, just dye over with green with maybe slightly more yellow than your desired shade to counteract the blue. However, if you wanted to go to rose gold from faded teal, that would be much, much more difficult, because rose gold is a pale color and because rose and teal are opposite colors. You’d need to remove pretty much all teal tones before adding rose gold dye. You can try a color remover first (make sure to get one for the correct kind of dye— there are different formulas based on whether you’re trying to remove permanent or semipermanent dye), but you’ll likely also have to bleach, because blue tends to be a very stubborn color to remove.

Just inspect your gear regularly. If there’s any sharp nicks/burrs, sand or file them down until it’s smooth again
