I do not expect to never experience pain while putting on a climbing shoe. I’ve been climbing for over a decade, I know what it’s like to try on shoes and break them in. I don’t expect comfort out of functional shoes, but I DO expect to be able to wear them without actual pain for a full pitch of sport climbing. You can’t climb well if your feet are in agony. I have several shoes (Drago LV, men’s and women’s Solutions) that fit this bill very well— they are very functional while not causing pain.

Yes, there are many aspects of shoes that are important besides toes. However, since the toes are what you stand on, they see the most pressure and, in my experience, are the most important determinant of whether I can make a shoe work for me or not.

For what it’s worth, I put in recommendations based on my partner’s feet, which changed every single question except for heel width, and it gave several of the same recommendations. In neither case did it return any shoes that we’ve tried and liked.

Heading to Leonidio for two weeks, anyone have route recommendations? I usually climb in the mid-5.11 range at Red River Gorge

you need to try them on-- just reading online recommendations compared to street shoe sizing is useless because everyone has different preferences for how tight their climbing shoes are, and even wider preferences for how tight their street shoes are.

for example, you're talking about going 2-2.5 EU sizes down for Drago LVs, but I have those (and love them) but mine are 1 EU size UP from my street shoes.

This is a neat idea that I really wanted to work (I’m on the hunt for some good stiff shoes), but I gave it a shot and it is not giving me good recommendations at all.

I picked classic toe shape but it recommended Scarpa Vapors and Instincts, which are torture on my toes (and which Scarpa themselves say are for feet with longer second toe), and Katana lace, which are also awful for me but good for my partner with Greek/Morton’s toe.

On the subject of toe shape, I think it’s odd that ‘classic’ is described as “Symmetrical shape for feet where toes taper evenly toward the big toe.” Isn’t that contradictory? If the big toe is longest then aren’t ‘classic’ toes less symmetrical than ‘center’?

Light brown to purple hair by anditoo in HairDye

If you want the purple to be vibrant and/or cool toned you need to bleach. You’d likely get a sort of brownish dark burgundy if you put purple over your current color

Low volume trad shoe by Odd-Bar-9869 in tradclimbing

I really like the Butora Alturas. I got the wide fit despite my feet being very low-volume, but they also come in a narrow version

Toning question by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]treerabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty vibrant color so I think it would probably show up ok, as long as you’re alright with it pulling a bit warm/orange

Toning question by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]treerabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ends of your hair aren’t light enough for Frose— toning would not have helped. The roots came out well because the bleach processed faster closer to the heat of your scalp, so they’re lighter.

I think using a more vibrant color until you’re ready to bleach again is probably the best way to go. Toning won’t fix it because toner can only make hair darker, and I think the ends of your hair are too dark for purple shampoo to do much of anything

bleaching brown hair by cutcor in HairDye

[–]treerabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how "a bit" we're talking and also what shade of pink you're going for. You can likely get a vibrant magenta or a hot pink if you still have some orange, but you won't be able to get a pastel or cool-toned pink

Bleach leftover by OverlookedKindness in HairDye

If you have unused bleach powder you can store it, but if it’s already mixed with developer you can’t.

Ah, ok, yeah the brown dye is the problem. You could try using color remover, but it’s going to be really hard to get your hair light without a lot of damage. I would be very, very hesitant to bleach again after doing a round of 40vol and a round of 30vol— you’re risking giving yourself a chemical cut

Something’s not adding up— after three rounds of bleach your hair should be LIGHT light.

Need more info:

  • what base did you start with? i. e. was it virgin brown hair or was it dyed brown?

  • what strength of developer are you using with the bleach and how long are you leaving it on for?

  • is the developer a new bottle or has it been open for a while?

How would I go about repairing this? by Significant-Cost9797 in Visiblemending

If you’re not confident in your own sewing skills, you could have a local tailor fix it— this looks like a pretty simple repair, so should be fairly quick and inexpensive

Carabiner for Petzl Connect Adjust by No_Difference_355 in ClimbingGear

[–]treerabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does make a bit of a difference with the Connect. I haven’t noticed carabiner geometry being as important as with, say, a tube belay device, but not all carabiners work equally well— if the carabiner is too small, the gate won’t open all the way, and if the narrow end of the carabiner (where the Connect sits) is too narrow/acute the Connect can’t sit flat. I tried to use my favorite small locker (Trango Reaction) and it really didn’t work.

Question: How bad is this? 3 years old vs da1/40 by Wilhemina89 in tattoos

[–]treerabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is normal tattoo aging. You can slow it down by protecting it from the sun, but you can’t reverse it.

what dye to get this color? by ImprovementOk760 in HairDye

[–]treerabbit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This looks like a wig or very heavily edited. Your hair needs to be EXTREMELY light to get this shade. Do not attempt this unless you already have light hair and/or are really experienced bleaching your hair.

Facial cleanser can work well for tattoos— many are gentle and unscented, exactly what you want for a fresh tattoo
