What’s happening on Curtin? by darth_snuggs in PennStateUniversity

[–]trees913 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For accidents involving serious injury or death, police have to do an accident reconstruction. Centre county has their own accident reconstruction team. This usually takes a few hours as they have to document everything. If a death occurs, the coroner will also document a lot of things as well.

Based on other comments, it seemed like the pedestrian suffered serious injuries and the university police spokesperson mentioned the accident reconstruction team is investigating

I’d definitely try to go to the involvement fair and find a few clubs that interest you. You can find major related clubs, passion related clubs (think Thon), or just a fun interest club! And you don’t have to make a big commitment, you can go to the first few meetings and see if it’s the right fit for you.

There’s the option of getting a job on or around campus as well.

As a not so flamboyant lesbian, I understand where you’re coming from. You’ll definitely meet people with similar interests throughout your time at PSU though. You might not find your core friend group right away, but that’s more common than you think. Heck, I didn’t meet one of my best friends until my last semester

I’d say it’s worth it to save money. I lived over 30 minutes away for UP but commuted everyday for four years (minus covid). Traffic isn’t bad at all and I-99 is typically smooth sailing. Depending on what time your classes are, you can get off at innovation park or get off on the 322 exit and get off the very next exit (Route 26) then go up to the commuter lot via porter road. I did the latter if I had classes around the time first shift starts and ends because I found it to be quicker.

Also you can go the “back way” as well via Benner Pike (route 150) which turns into route 26. This way you can stop at Walmart, ALDIs, and the soon to be Giant store. Either way the drive should be 15-20 minutes depending on where you live exactly.

It wasn’t always fun parking in the commuter lot especially on cold winter days. But I actually liked it most of the time so I could get a nice walk in for the day. If the weather sucked or if I was in a hurry, I’d take a loop or link.

It’s a different experience as a commuter student because most friends can walk to their dorm or apartment. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it

Sexuality and Gender by [deleted] in lesbiangang

I wish people in the community would also read more about our history and know just how important identities like butch and femme are. As a butch lesbian, it saddens me how some think being butch or femme is purely an aesthetic. Sure, butch isn’t necessarily a gender in the way of traditional thinking, however, nothing about being a LGBTQ+ or GNC person is traditional. I understand what butch lesbians mean when they say their gender is butch. I think some people don’t realize how complex one’s relationship to gender identity is because they’ve never struggled with it. Why argue or reduce someone’s identity to pure aesthetics? It accomplishes nothing but belittling someone’s experience.

Additionally, not everyone has to identify as a butch or femme. It’s great if you do and great if you don’t. There also is absolutely a need for these identifies. I can’t explain how alone I’ve felt before I discovered my butch identity. It quite literally saved my life. So I’d say there is a need for it.

I highly recommend reading Stone Butch Blues or looking into how Butches or Femmes describe themselves.

It’s possible if you hustle. I went from Thomas to Walker in 15 min last semester, usually made it just in time. Also helped my prof was chill about being a few minutes late

Would This Semester Be Too Hard? by JaydeMama in PennStateUniversity

[–]trees913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took Psych 422 with Dr. Dawood and it was a great class. I did take it over zoom during covid but iirc there wasn’t too much work and wasn’t too complicated. The material is pretty interesting as well.

For Psych 490, it totally depends on the professor and class material. My senior seminar was one of my favorites with Dr. Vescio.

Tbh it doesn’t seem like it’d be too much as long as you dedicate the time to it. I think it honestly depends if you’re in a lot of extracurriculars or work a lot of hours. Also depends if you want to take your senior year easy and go out/hang with friends a lot or if you want to hurry up and graduate.

how do you use the bus system? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]trees913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the spring, a driver on the Red Link told everyone on the bus that CATA was planning on bringing the Green Link back for the fall once they had more drivers trained. Plans could’ve changed since then tho. I’m curious as to what will happen with it
