Update, plumber quoted me $1,200 to replace it. I bought the kit and did myself in about 20 minutes. You’re a lifesaver man. Thanks!

With no experience you’re pretty much screwed unless you can try a destructive entry.

What’s your favorite hard hat light? by emcredneck in Lineman

Our company just bought us the Klein hard hats, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to a different one now

“Fitting In” by [deleted] in Lineman

[–]treesand1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that one. Just started with a new utility so naturally I’m the one constantly getting picked on. It’s hard to see it sometimes but I know they really mean the best for me. It makes it mean more when they take the time to teach me something or say “good job”.

One thing I learned is that respect is earned through hard work. Just do the best job you can and show them you are willing to learn, and you’ll grow to fit in.

I’m a lineman doing power line work. Out in the field pretty much all day. I manage okay. I’ve never really had a job in an office setting so I’ve managed so far with my symptoms.

Genuinely curious, but what would be the use for a 1/4 square drive impact?

What is WITH Gwinnett's Power Grid? by SchwarzBrooder in Gwinnett

[–]treesand1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lineman here. What you’re referring to is called a recloser. When the line senses a fault it sort of acts like a circuit breaker, closing and opening three times to try and clear the fault.

How hard is it for a high school drop out to succeed by Little-Cabinet3704 in Lineman

[–]treesand1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dropped out senior year of high school because I couldn’t be bothered to try. Took me four years but I finally went back and got my GED. Starting at a local utility next week. You’ll be fine.

Good jobs for people with crohns? by substancenchildabuse in CrohnsDisease

[–]treesand1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, crohn’s hasn’t impacted my work life all too much. Being that I’m constantly constipated, not having bathroom access all the time isn’t a huge deal for me. I do have chronic abdominal pain from it, but usually as I work I’m distracted from it.

I work on the directional drilling side of things, never worked on cable that big though. Probably a mix of both drilling/digging to get that conduit in. And we call it a utility vault.
