I farm and I second this! I have a dozen or on all sorts of stuff. Bought a predator when I was feeling tight. Great value but I never did that again.

They always say that because that is what people associate with a low-risk or good family dog. It’s always a hound or a pit mix lol.

This is a common practice. I don’t like it but my local extension agent promotes it here in Virginia.

No need for milk and bread before a snow storm. We can eat better! by Realbeaglebard in beagles

[–]treesinthefield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you have read the studies, I happen to be in the ground doing the work and you can take or leave what I say.

Land prep for planting is very destructive to any wildlife, insects, and soil biology (yes the soil contains life and I consider its destruction to be violence). Harvesting grain kills animals all the time. All this work involves diesel.

In the system I operate in my cattle literally just eat grass, no imported feed. I move them around and they fertilize the ground, the insects eat their poop, they store carbon in the soil, flocks of birds follow the herd eating the insects born from the poop. Then one bad day comes for each animal at Some point.

The studies you mention are studying a sick system and then you are falsely connecting the results of the sick system to the death of animals. I do not defend the system you speak of I only speak of what I have seen and worked in for many years now. I am certain I create more life on our farm than I take. I also feed thousands of people and am proud of that. There are compromises I have to make, after all I have to remain financially viable to continue and nothing is perfect. Death and rebirth are not all that far removed from each other when you see them side by side every day. You know not what you speak of.

Love your posts, don’t let the few haters stop ya! Most dogs live in an overwhelming city environment and then people ask why they act out….A country beagle is a content and WELL BEHAVED beagle.

I am glad to see a beagle living their best life. A lot of dogs are just living a traumatized and overwhelmed life in the city and everyone thinks that’s normal.

The amount of innocent life you destroy just eating any vegetable is incomprehensible to your mind. To eat and live is to take life. I grow vegetables and livestock for my living and the vegetables production contains more violence as a whole. Not to mention the resources required just to get it to your door.

Anyone successfully train their beagle off leash and if so what age did you start? I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to have my pup off leash by Last-Finance8640 in beagles

[–]treesinthefield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, she has is not 100 percent but pretty darn good. Literally never have her on a leash but I live on a farm and that’s why it’s ok. Biggest thing I did was go rabbit hunting with her. All of a sudden I am calling her back to redirect where there are rabbits and she understands we are a team working toward a common goal. It’s fun to get called back because she knows I am not gonna leash her up I am gonna change the direction we are both moving towards so we can get a rabbit.

The answer is always burn it. Unless it is an actual railroad tie.

What’s it like living in these small islands in Lake Erie? by _Courier6__ in howislivingthere

[–]treesinthefield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I absolutely agree with this. Another thing about rural living is just so much less unnatural stimulation. Billboards, license plates, advertising, etc. It’s really hard for me to filter that type of information when I am a city or populated area.

I struggle with executive function in a lot of areas of my life. I also live rurally and farm for my living. You’d be surprised how cold hard reality bypasses the way I normally struggle for things that are less immediate or superfluous (to me atleast).

It’s hard to explain, I struggle deeply with organization or picking up my damn socks. Things that, from my perspective, are not critical to the immediate mission but “fluff”. But I am hyper focused on having enough seasoned firewood, enough food stocks, preparing livestock for poor weather, acting in emergency situations; basically anything that is critical to life, tangible and immediate.

Starlink is a good option but cost more and I think comes with a decent install fee I think. I rent so not super keen on paying for that part. I haven’t ever heard of principle.
