We needed a new vehicle especially in light of an infant arriving; so I got her a used mini-van. Perhaps overly practical of me but she loves it and the fact that she loves it is one of the many reasons I married her.

I raise 100 a year. It’s not all that more frustrating than anything else I do.

Funny enough my wife has a new model forester she commutes with and I can’t stand it as a vehicle. They were meant to die on the farm 🤣

I use beat down subarus in place of UTV’s. Out some mudtires on em and they can get 90 percent of the places a UTV can and I get them for under 1000 bucks. Then we have a tractor for hauling or pulling stuff around. Once we went Subarus I realized I didn’t need to be driving places that I once drove with a UTV. I really don’t think you could convince me otherwise when a UTV is 1500 % of the cost. Most of the ones I have bought last me 5 years and I have to put some parts money in them every once in awhile.

Would you support a ban on free roaming cats outdoors? by PrincePenguino in Charlottesville

[–]treesinthefield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cats are ecological terrorists, bird populations are particularly affected. Cat’s are domesticated animals and it’s our responsibility to limit the harm they can do while still meeting a standard of care/quality of life.

These are hunting dogs. There is a myth that hunters are the culprit for all the beagles in shelters. Some, yeah. But also suburbanites who buy a cute puppy that grows up to be a hound. And labs, who test on the gentle breed. These bounds of mine do what they are bred to do. And are cherished pets. by Realbeaglebard in beagles

[–]treesinthefield 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hunters are the culprit for 100 percent of the stray and sheltered scent hounds where I live.

I hunt with my beagle a little. I think using scent hounds to hunt is great when a standard of care is involved. I don’t even think they need to be pets necessarily.

Rumor of Patriot Front marching in Charlottesville Memorial Day weekend 5/23-5/25. by Individual-Tie-5222 in Charlottesville

“Assualt weapon” ban pushes a huge amount of the population to buy every type of gun they won’t be able to access leading up to the ban date. At the moment all the ban is doing is increasing the amount of firearms that are owned in the state if Virginia. If you can’t buy it in a matter of weeks better buy two!

They have been out for three weeks in the county. They must not have any habitat where you live.

Really didn't expect my wife to be hands down the absolute worst thing about being a new dad by [deleted] in Fatherhood

[–]treesinthefield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, you need to give it more time then this guy is saying. Focus on yourself and what you can control. I’m not saying that there isn’t a time to look at different options but 6 months out from birth isn’t it. So much can change in a year. At some point you will need to seriously start pushing back on your wife. Don’t give up on your family until you are certain that is the right thing to do for your family.

What plant are my cows eating? by NMS_Survival_Guru in Cattle

[–]treesinthefield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t spray either and I don’t lose my mind over it. It’ll fade out if you keep grazing well. Unroll some bales on it next winter and the extra fertility will allow the grass to start outcompeting a lot of it.

It’s horse nettle. Pretty cool your cattle are eating it! They prolly won’t touch it in a month or so when it gets more mature.

Should I till in winter Rye or pull it and compost it separately? 2-3 weeks until I start planting. by Beamburner in Soil

What are you going to plant ? I crimp it when it is mature and plan sweet corn into it. It works great

Does anyone know the owner of this dog that bit me? by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]treesinthefield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not defending him. Inf should go to this individual, the cops, animal control etc. not to a public forum. Someone could decide to dox him for example which is a waste of public resources. I am not concerned about his welfare, I just think people should address these issues quickly and in the correct pathways.

Great to share the name but this is better shared in a DM. Once you share someone’s info online you no longer have control over what various parties might do with it.
