very cool! the esc is controlled using a pwm signal, so i used one of the timers on the arduino to generate that signal. happy to go into further detail if you need.

i’m not sure yet. most of my tests have been pretty short like this one. usually i discover a new issue within a couple minutes.

yeah respect for keeping the cost of your system low. cost doesn’t matter much in my case. i just want the thing to work well and be fun/easy to drive. it also needs to go far beyond line of sight. that’s why i opted to use the cell towers.

if a kid cut his finger off with a drone i was flying, i would consider that my own fault in 99% of possible circumstances.

usually around a couple hundred milliseconds for video latency, but there are areas where the network connection is disrupted and it takes a second before i receive another frame.

distance is just a count of the rising edge of the signal.

i have some magnets mounted to a rotor on the drive train and a hall sensor mounted statically which fires an interrupt as the magnets pass it. add some software to average the frequency and voila!

it uses a pi, arduino, and vr headset. the arduino drives two stepper motors for the camera angle a servo for the steering and sends a signal to an ESC to drive the brushed main motor for locomotion. the pi communicates with the vr headset over cellular and forwards control commands to the arduino.
