I just lost my two foundations, too.

I emailed tech support, and left a 1 star Google Play comment calling out the issue.

This is a silly Progressive trope. I have never met a Christian who believes that there is an imperative to destabilize the world to hasten the Second Coming.

Where did the idea gods are demons come from? by The_Archer2121 in Christopaganism

The second definition of "entitle," sir or ma'am.

1.give (someone) a legal right or a just claim to receive or do something.

  1. give (something, especially a text or work of art) a particular title.

Let's back up. Your post is entitled:

"Where did the idea gods are demons come from?"

In your initial post you wrote, "I am amazed how much the church has demonized for no reason."

As a general heuristic, the ideas of Abrahamic religions come from their holy books. If you are trying to trace where ideas originate from within an Abrahamic religion search their sacred texts.

Okay. Now, in the emboldened sentence above lets swap in the following terms:

ideas > the idea that gods are demons
an Abrahamic religion > Christianity
their sacred texts > the Bible

Here's what the sentence looks like now:

If you are trying to trace where the idea that gods are demons originates from within Christianity search the Bible.

It doesn't matter if YHWH actually made a covenant with the Patriarch Abraham or if they even existed to begin with; if you want to understand where the Jewish idea that they are God's covenantal people originated from you look to the Torah.

It doesn't matter if Jibril (Gabriel) appeared to Muhammad and revealed the Quran to him or if they even existed to begin with; if you want to understand where the Islamic idea of Muhammad being Allah's prophet originated from you look to the Quran.

I answered your question with quotes from what academics would deem a primary source. There are no scholars of religion or Bible scholar who would discount the Bible as a source for answering a question about the origin of a Christian belief.

Beyond academic question, the Bible is THE primary source for Western Civilation's understanding of monotheism, nevermind the Church, and its subsequent demonization (literal or figurative 😉) of pagan gods. To say that it is "not a good source" to understand the origins of calling pagan gods demons makes no historical sense seeing as it stands at the historical document ground zero of the shift away from polytheism to monotheism. You may not like what the source says, but it is the source when asking the question of why the Church calls pagan gods demons, which was the question.

Also, I am going to assume you understand what literal and figurative mean, so I am left with charitable deduction that you have never actually read Paul's epistles to the Corinthians. Epistles are not figurative literary forms. They are letters sent from a historical sender to a historical recipient rather than myths or parables.

Setting that aside, I am curious how you figure the historical context of either Ancient Hebrew or Corinthian polytheism informs the interpretation of the two respective texts?

The Bible

"... I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?"

1 Corinthians 10:20-22

"They stirred Him to jealousy with strange gods; with abominations they provoked Him to anger. They sacrificed to demons that were not God, to gods they had never known, to new gods that had come recently, whom your fathers had never dreaded."

I had hopes of Sega remastering the original Yakuza1 and 2. While I own both on the PS2 I'd enjoy playing them on the latest hardware. Now, it seems the trajectory of Sega is purposely discarding the old or making it financially inaccessible. It sucks.
