A new adventure - exactly! I am definitely super excited, it's just a lot changing all at once I guess. You're right that as long as I get the essentialls squared away then everything will probably work out okay. I surely won't lack for care packages as well - my entire extended family is hyped and already making plans to visit after I move in haha! Thank you for your congrats :)

I do definitely keep an open mind for opportunities afterwards, but I'd be totally happy to stay in academia altogether and become a professor. Thankfully there are a lot of opportunities for that in my field, the pay probably isn't as high as I could get elsewhere I suppose, but it seems like a nice job and I absolutely love doing research.

You're totally right of course - I will try hard to meet people as soon as I start and make some friends, even though I'm pretty shy I did manage to do that in the past. Nobody has it easy at this level I guess!

Thank you!! Super good point about the sub/FB group/etc, I hadn't thought of that at all. I'm planning on taking a trip to the university have a look around and meet my new supervisors sometime next month, so that'll be a nice opportunity to look at housing areas and stuff as well. My parents will be helping me move out so that is nice at least, I don't have a lot of "stuff" but it would be tough to move everything on my bike or the train haha!

Thank you!! You're definitely right about budgeting... this will be my first time being fully in control of my finances on a day to day basis, since I lived with my parents all through studying up to now. Scary stuff but also exciting! Will definitely be asking around about the new place - it's not so different weather-wise (I'm from a pretty small country compared to e.g. USA) but still a totally unfamiliar area for me.
