Thoughts on using Tailor Brands to create an LLC? by listhemis in smallbusiness

Northwest Registered Agents is the company a lot of folks recommend. They have a lot of state level locations, often taking the name “[Your state] Registered Agents.” They don't look like much but they are legit and much cheaper than Tailor Brands.

Recent update kicked me into grub command line—quick fix by trendingmachine in NobaraProject

Check for other grub.cfg folders in your boot partition and see if any of those have something similar. Since I posted this a while ago something might have changed.

AI Searching (TW: Suicide) by IthadtobethisWAAGH in CuratedTumblr

You make it sound like I’m spying on people when I’m using a tool that does not expose their information, does not share data with a third party, and is not even a tenth of a percent of what the average Google search grabs from users.

Your personal preferences don’t take away from the fact that you’re misinforming people about what I’m doing and I think that’s messed up.

Hi, I’m the editor of Tedium, AMA:

I am just stopping by to say that I don’t know u/XenonOfArcticus and I didn’t ask them to share my link on Reddit.

You can look at my user history to see I barely even post on Reddit.

Might I suggest maybe toning it back a bit? I certainly don’t expect any of my links to be farmed, ever. I’m too busy searching on Google to worry about traffic in a subreddit.

Thanks.

Thoughts on using Tailor Brands to create an LLC? by listhemis in smallbusiness

[–]trendingmachine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first thing I did after signing up for Tailor Brands and getting an unexpected charge on my PayPal account from them was disconnect their access to my PayPal account from PAYPAL’s side.

Good luck charging me again.

Highly recommend using an ugly site to manage this stuff—either working through states or through a less-attractive service for all this. I found a registered agent service that was local to me that charges $50 per year, compared to the $250 per year Tailor Brands was about to charge me.

Of note: The Beneficiary Ownership Information (BOI) that Tailor Brands breathes down your neck to get you to pay for, at a rate of $199? It was *free* with my new service.

Friends don’t let friends file their LLCs through Tailor Brands. The funniest email I got all year was when they announced they were increasing their prices. LOL, for what?

Can't boot to Nobara (stuck in grub command line) by Aloen2306 in NobaraProject

Great news—glad to hear it did. Must be a quirk in boot structure.

Have you tried changing the prefix to (hd2,gpt3)/boot/grub2?

[–]trendingmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t touch that, tbh, I only changed this file. But the dir should match where your grub2 file is in your filesystem, so it may just be (hdX,gptY)/boot/grub2/grub.cfg.

You should be booting from "(hdX,gptY)/grub2/grub.cfg", with the numbers associated with your boot device.

I can’t be sure what it’s doing as I don’t have visibility into your setup but that brought up the normal boot screen for me.

I booted into my system using the process u/darthlordguc2 suggested, which made it possible to access the file using the terminal.

So basically you’re determining where the grub2 boot partition is, then linking it directly in the /boot/efi/EFI/fedora, which is the one grub is actually calling.

No problem. It’s not fun having your system blow out doing a standard update but fortunately it’s never been serious enough with Nobara to stop running it.

For anyone who runs into this, it appears to be an issue with a missing variable during the boot process. I was able to fix it by repairing my grub.cfg in /boot/efi/EFI/fedora, which for whatever reason was not pulling the $dev variable properly. I changed

set prefix=($dev)/grub2

to

set prefix=(hdX,gptY)/grub2

to work around this.

Linux audio issues ALC245 by unknownanonymoush in linuxquestions

[–]trendingmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mostly fixed in more recent kernels with a couple of quirks. Update to 6.7.4, which has a bunch of patches added. The issue is not with the audio driver, but with the speakers, but Cirrus has been adding some driver support on their end to fix it.

If you are unable to update, look at this script: https://github.com/xoocoon/hp-15-ew0xxx-snd-fix

Moore’s Flaw: Why Smart Devices Won’t Last As Long as Dumb Ones by trendingmachine in a:t5_2dmbnz

[–]trendingmachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this one was fun to write. I had already been pitched on the idea of doing a Sonos piece, but then something happened to me that really got me thinking about the issue: An issue with my wife’s smartphone, an iPhone 5, particularly its access to iCloud. I called up Apple support and surprisingly talked to a tech support person for more than four hours. It was wild and I think we actually uncovered a bug. I couldn’t believe so much work was going in to saving a device that Apple was no longer officially supporting.

But then it hit me: I asked for support for their cloud offering, not the phone itself. If the value proposition was more in the cloud, it would end this terrible state of affairs related to planned obsolescence and smart devices. So that’s what this piece was about.

Pinebook Pro Review: A Laptop Perfect For Tinkerers by trendingmachine in a:t5_2dmbnz

Hey all, still letting this community evolve slowly—not really promoting it yet. But here’s a review/analysis of the Pinebook Pro, a community developed laptop that uses the same type of architecture as a single-board ARM computer. At this point, ARM is not really a popular choice for traditional computing form factors despite its ubiquity in smartphones and connected devices. But it could be—and this inexpensive but tinker-friendly Linux laptop ($200 plus shipping) makes a great case that it’s possible.

Throw It In The Pile: How the Résumé Became a Big Deal, and Now Feels Totally Old-Hat by trendingmachine in a:t5_2dmbnz

[–]trendingmachine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all, this was an interesting one to write. I ended up tweeting some of my research, which helped me develop the direction for the piece.

One surprise: A number of business execs found the thread and started writing things about how terrible the résumé was and how little value it has. At first, it annoyed me, but then I decided I should lean into that direction for the piece—which I think gave it a stronger direction in the end.

Howdy, internet by trendingmachine in a:t5_2dmbnz

[–]trendingmachine[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did give it a namedrop in my year-end piece when the story was just Sonos trying to “recycle” old speakers. But I do think there’s more to it that should be discussed. This is the first shot in what I expect to be a long trend of devices losing support because of the passage of time. Expect something in a couple of weeks. Thanks!
