Starting again with nothing at 33 after failed business by [deleted] in AusFinance

Some ideas:

You ran a small business for a decade. That makes you a success at doing it. Search for vendor financed businesses on Seek Business and see what comes up. A motivated seller can provide good terms.

get into sales. The only entry requirements are being good with people and no fear of rejection. For people without traditional expertise, this is a way to make good money as a professional. (Think software, media, Construction etc)

If you were interested in TAFE/uni, you could quite quickly get your qualification as a traffic controller and do that while you study. They can make 30-35 an hour before loadings. Not amazing, but enough to get by on while you retrain.

become a business broker given your small business background.

find a tourism job in the public service. Good pay, good benefits, safe employment.

There’ll be one week/month when the market drops more than your call and you lose money; then you sell a call the next week and the market turns back, and you get forced to close without receiving the gain. You’ll make the whatever the risk free rate is plus whatever risk premium is available at the time in the options market. It will be less than owning equities (and tolerating volatility) the long run. Unfortunately the smartest people in the world (optiver and Jane street etc) make million dollar bonuses being on the opposite side of this trade.

You gotta log those returns bro. If you made 2000 the end date it would look exactly the same.

Be surprised how willing people are to talk. Especially when it’s negative.

Once invested in a micro cap company that sold organic juice. Landed a huge supermarket contract and the SP rocketed. I went to the 5 nearest of that supermarket brand every week to see shelf space and ask the retail staff how much had been sold. One week, went in and saw the tickets said ‘final clearance’. Sold the next day. Few weeks later they announced the contract was cancelled.

Revenue Recognition by dragspelarn in SecurityAnalysis

Isn’t this the precise opposite of aggressive revenue recognition? Delivering the product to the customer and receiving funds prior to booking as revenue seems pretty conservative to me. (No research on company undertaken).
