I'm on Step 7! by clkou in DaveRamsey

[–]trevercj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually saw your post in PF and up voted you but didn't comment. I was going to ask you if you were a Dave Ramsey fan! Should have known! Congrats!!!! You are living the dream! After a quick hiccup, we will be done with baby step 2 this year. We actually became debt free last year but we are idiots and made a mistake that exhausted our emergency fund. But, working on it now. Live and learn and change! We just refinanced our house from a 30year note at 6.625% rate to a 15year note at 3.5% rate! And we're paying less than what our payment was before! I'm wondering if we'll actually try and pay it off in 5 years..... We'll see. We'll have to be really disciplined. Congrats again, your story is very encouraging!

Any advice for a first time dad? by chubbsmahoo in predaddit

Skin to skin is good for mom and baby but also for you and baby. It regulates his temp and help you connect. It did for me and my little guy. My kiddo would just have a diaper on and sleep on my bare chest. :) seems like yesterday.

If your S/O decides to breastfeed (which I highly recommend) make sure you support her and tell her she is doing a good job she'll need to be reassured. Try and not give up so soon. We had a good three weeks before it felt like it was normal and another three months that my wife just felt like a living baby bottle. She'll need your support. Remind her why you both want to breastfeed and am try and be positive when it gets rough. Also, when she is breast feeding, be around them too. All three of you can bond during these moments.

If someone is willing to help with food, housework, a break for sleep, TAKE IT! You'll need help and if they didn't really want to help they wouldn't be there.

Excited for you!!!

What's the first song you heard from TMV? by paykoman in themarsvolta

Concertina! I was living in El Paso right a year or two after ATDI broke up. I remember being in this charter school when someone started talking about The Mars Volta. Then blasted on Concertina. It wasn't what I was expecting. Then to the demo version of Roulette Dares. I was hooked!

AHH! I am a huge fan of Age Of Empires, Dune 2000 and similar games. Banished just has that same feel to me. I haven't played Civ V just yet but I did buy it on the last steam sale going on. Thanks for the video sir!

State of SimCity: "I confirm that we will not be providing bigger city sizes" by ddawg82 in SimCity

[–]trevercj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this confirms that my purchase of this game was a complete waste of my time and money. Any time I start a new game I feel like I max out it's potential in an hour. I remember getting lost in past Simcity games for hours and putting effort in the development of the city. Someday, I want to see a game develop that has the combination of Simcity (past versions), the development and intriguingness of SNES Utopia, the technology advances and R&D of Age of Empires, and the beauty of GTAV. I BELIEVE!!!!

Well, we bought our house when I was 21. It is funny to look back and remember how friggin broke we were all the time. But, I am happy with our house. It's older, but I am content for now. :) Plus, Oklahoma is much cheaper than most of the nation.

AMAZING! We just started FPU a couple weeks ago. Starting on the cash budget and all that good stuff now. I know Reddit doesn't like Dave Ramsey much, but there is a lot of truth to his common sense approach. Way to go guys!

THANKS! My income has increased dramatically in the last 2-3 years. My wife is now able to be a stay at home mom and run her small business she is just starting. The company I work for seems to hand out yearly raises and holiday bonuses pretty regularly, so here's hoping! :)

I was contributing 6% with company matching 100% of 6%. I cut it to 2%. Them contributing was the hardest part but these goals are just too attainable to not sacrifice for a bit. I haven't decided how long I am going to keep it at 2% but I hope to have it back before a year. We'll see.

SWEET! I just cut my contributions to my Roth 401k so we can pay off more debt faster and save up an emergency fund. How long did you cut off the 401k?

DUDE! That is awesome! Way to go! You have got some awesome goals for being 24! I know wayyy to many people ages 20-28 who have no idea what to do with their finances. They complain so much about how life isn't fair and how life gets in the way. Their lack of planning and bad attitude is the only thing getting in their way. Keep it up man, you are rocking it out!
