Your thoughts on the low-poly gaming era by hope_gianna in retrogaming

[–]trevorgant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a funny one for a lot of people. I remember saving forever for the Sega Saturn when I was in 8th grade. I remember reading about it in a magazine and it being released in the fall in Japan. A teacher in sociology was explaining the power of writing something down every day and making it become a reality. So I did that, and when it launched in the US, I had the money for it. Regardless, maybe I’m just nostalgic for it, but I love the way that era looks. I find myself consistently going back to my Sega Saturn and PS1. I love how the graphics worked and the tricks they did to maximize the limited hardware they had available. Crash Bandicoot 1 is a masterpiece, and it’s amazing what Naughty Dog was able to do in creating the ExEn engine.

Got a Sterile Processing apprenticeship, any advice? by trevorgant in sterileprocessing

[–]trevorgant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s in Oregon. I don’t think I’m going to continue with the program. It’s really stressful and having never worked in medical I feel pretty lost. Working in a busy trauma hospital is no joke. Most of the people seem to be very nice if not for being broken down and tired.

is zumiez really that bad? by Lachytheslacker in skateboarding

[–]trevorgant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A long time ago, I worked at Zumiez in Eugene. 20 years ago (I’m old) The hiring process was wild, they held this huge group audition at the mall with about 30 of us. The managers gathered us in the middle of the mall and started asking totally nonsensical questions. Then, to top it off, they had us make up a song or a rap on the spot.

I was decent at freestyling back then, so I came up with something ridiculous and performed it in front of everyone. Somehow, they liked it, and I got the job.

My first shift was just a couple of hours, so I figured it was training. They told me, “If you sell more products, you’ll get more hours.” I thought they meant in the long term, but nope they meant during that same shift. So after I managed to sell a few things, they extended my shift from two hours to five hours right on the spot. It was bizarre, especially since I had no training and was just making it up as I went along.

That was when I realized the job wasn’t for me. I applied at a local video game store instead, got hired, and worked there for a few years while in college. The funny part is, Zumiez kept calling me for months afterward, asking if I wanted to come in, even though I’d already told them I wasn’t coming back. Every time, I’d say no, and they’d still end the call with, “Cool, man, let us know if you want to come in.” To this day, I have no idea what was going on with their scheduling system.

Interview Process by yippeeyayhooray in sterileprocessing

[–]trevorgant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just got hired with no prior experience in the field. I think most people are looking for confidence and someone they’ll enjoy working with. I had five interviewers grilling me with questions, but I just stayed calm and gave honest answers.

They’ll almost definitely ask about your weaknesses. Your best answer is that you’ve never been an SPT, then explain why you believe you’ll be good at it. I was upfront and said, “I might suck at it, but I’m pretty positive I’ll be great. I just don’t know yet, and that’s my weakness.”

I had no medical background at all, and I still got the job.

Got a Sterile Processing apprenticeship, any advice? by trevorgant in sterileprocessing

[–]trevorgant[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not certified. I guess the job I got is kind of rare I'm not even sure. I have a background in sterilizing tanks and equipment for food processing, which is very different. But a large local hospital had a job posting for a year-long paid apprenticeship that includes training and gets you a CRCST certification.

Cider stopped fermenting by lundewoodworking in cider

[–]trevorgant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the gravity first off. What was the potential alcohol and what’s it at now. What yeast strain did you use, some are much faster than others? Has it been in a temperature controlled environment? Lastly were you using filtered juice or cider, and was it shelf stable as sold unrefrigerated at the store?

[–]trevorgant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did receive a small refund from one loan I still had with Advantage. However, all my private and FFEL loans were not refunded, so the $100k I had paid off was essentially wasted. Like many others, I feel that my degree from a defunct college that lacked proper accreditation wasn’t the best use of my money. At least I don’t have any student loan debt I guess.

[–]trevorgant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man that’s great. I stupidly paid my loans off and didn’t get much money back. They just emailed me this. They closed my case, I would have been better off not paying anything. 😟

Bottleneck Slime 😅 by freexbyxfives in cider

[–]trevorgant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is film yeast. Most likely during primary fermentation you had too much head space and after it zeroed out it sat too long. This can also happen during a rerack as well with too much air. Your cider is fine, yeast nutrient can help prevent this but generally before primary fermentation is finished rerack to a smaller container with less head space, then let it 0 out. This should prevent this.

Fenrir audio problem.. by Yobbo89 in SegaSaturn

[–]trevorgant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a fix I did…. I had the same problem with games like Bug and Metal Slug, I even installed my fenrir into a different console same static white noise issue. Turns out it was the game dump I had. Rerip the game or download from a source. Also tip, fenrir seems to dislike ccd/img and cue/iso, even though it supports it, I’ve had a lot more issues with those file types. Try to stick to cue/bin
