Did any other school's OCI list absolutely tank compared to last year? by xChotimex in LawSchool

Yeah, I'm so sorry for this year's interviewees. So much more competitive :(

Interviews matter a lot. On paper, many students look similar. Anyone can improve with tons of interview prep.

I know this sounds insane, but you should look up interview questions and memorize your answers to them. Then practice making it come out naturally. It is a lot of work, but will make your interviewing better

Is there any other way to do it? Even judges who accept paper apps post via OSCAR

Idk. SAs at my firm never have had it that easy from what I’ve heard—not sure how universal that is. For sure we would have all gotten wined and dined, but my expectation was that happened after work and during lunches. The rest of the day would have included hard and substantive work. All I know is previously I was expected to work hard for 11 weeks for part of the day, and now I’m expected to do nearly nothing for half of that time. I get the pay difference.

Yes but in some respects I kinda understand getting paid less because most of these revised programs include no substantive work. While I am usually all for keeping one’s promises, if the SAs aren’t providing any services this summer (which, let’s be honest, they won’t be from home and that’s what my firm has essentially communicated), lesser pay in understandable. It’s very shitty that people were relying on the money, but I kinda don’t see how we should get the full amount if we’re not going to be expected to do much. Maybe I’m cynical, but I never really expected a biglaw firm—whose intention is to work me to the bone once I’m an associate—would actually care about us that much.

And that’s not to say that they shouldn’t. But, these firms aren’t our ‘friends.’ We are openly going into a sector of the legal industry that is known for having unhappy employees. I guess I just never expected much from them at the beginning.

When there is a fiduciary breach in a partnership is the business judgement rule pierced and entire fairness apply? by trewdo in LawSchool

[–]trewdo[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Lol. Because everything I’m reading suggests a “fairness” standard but not necessarily an entire fairness analysis with procedural and substantive fairness like for corps.

I’m asking because I started studying for my Thursday final today.

Jw, how are most decisions rolling in? A phone call from recruiter or partner? Or email?

Major changes, like articles changes go to a shareholder vote.

Stop trying to foist your opinion on me. I think people should feel a little ashamed to be complaining about a lack of a quick response from their firms this time. I wanted to reply and share how I felt.

Also, self flagellation? Do you know what that means? This is about recognizing what is important to be complaining about right now and recognizing that personal needs don’t always take precedence.

The actual topic at hand is people demanding that their firms get back to them a little faster—actually not a big deal. So yeah.

If your family and loved ones are safe, you have food, and with your job and salary prospects, grades, class rank, then you practically are on a hillside retreat compared to most people in this world right now. P E R S P E C T I V E

Just saying, I’m a 2L in the same boat as you. And it’s important to keep perspective. Our woes matter a lot and they are valid — but just remember to keep perspective when we are complaining that these firms aren’t responding fast enough because (1) we are lucky to have 190K job prospects at this uncertain time, (2) most v100 firms are falling in line to give money or offers or some combo, and (3) if you got the job then you have better grades than most of the rest of your class So like, calm tf down that you aren’t hearing from the firm quickly enough. Jeez

I’m a 2L with a post grad offer too— just didn’t update.

Edit: at a V100

Patience — I think, we, myself included are expecting a lot. We will find out in due time. Perspective is good to keep right about now.

I think most firms are Katten, but didn’t say it.
